🐋 A 5-million-year-old whale graveyard beneath the Indian Ocean!
Scientists have discovered the world's largest and deepest whale fossil graveyard in the Diamantina Fracture Zone, around 1,600 km west of Perth, Australia. The site contains more than 480 whale fossils, some dating back 5.3 million years, including a previously unknown extinct species of beaked whale.
Lying nearly 7,000 metres below the surface, this remarkable discovery is helping scientists better understand whale evolution, ancient migration routes, and the unique deep-sea ecosystems that thrive around whale falls. Even today, the ocean continues to preserve extraordinary secrets beneath its waves

TIME MACHINE:

Frank Wightman 1896 - 1970

Frank was a sensitive, intellectual, semi-recluse who lived alone for some 20 years, starting in the 1940's on his small yacht 'Wylo' (10m overall). He was usually anchored in Kraalbaai in the shelter of Konstabelkop.

Frank built Wylo himself and sailed her across to the Caribbean.

Frank wrote two books "The wind is free (1949) and My way leads me seaward (1951).

His biography was written by Lawrence Green, titled "A Giant in hiding." (1970)

Frank eventually lived at the farm Oesterval with his friend Brian Lello towards the end of the 1960's.

This is a picture of Wylo.

Our Cabin, honouring one of Langebaan's Legends, Captain Frank Wightman, situated in Wightman Street is in memory of his life.
