The Strandloper Sunday Swim started out in 2018 as a long swim for those triathletes headed to Ironman a few weeks after the Blue Lagoon Tri.
Since then the clean water, simple to follow course and scenic safety of the Langebaan Lagoon has made it one of the most popular open water swims in SA.
300 swimmers enjoyed Weskus style fire roasted koffie βn biskuit on the rocks while they psyched up for a long swim following the white sand shore back to Mykonos.
The Albatross long swim drew the biggest crowds including a few elite swimmers. Those who opted to swim the shorter Gannet or Oyster catcher distances got to enjoy a leisurely scenic beach stroll collecting shells while watching the long swimmers beyond the breakers π£ππ¦
It was social and competitive, mostly a great way to introduce swimmers & triathletes to the unique joy of open water ocean swimming.
The slipway finish vibes were fun and at times emotional.
Prize giving over pizzas & beer in the sun was the ideal toasty toast to an awesome morning in pristine nature in what again turned out to be close to idyllic conditions ππ½
Thank you swimmers - enjoy soaking up the turquoise memories.

We believe that children are our futureβ¦ let them swim and let them run all day..π΅
Great habits start early & if we can inspire the youth to be present and physical we may just keep the scary online fixation trend at bay. Letβs just keep them amped to play outside π§π₯π€
The kids splash & dash has been a long standing feature of Blue Lagoon weekend and its always beautiful to witness the laaities burning off the energy built up watching mom, dad or uncle Larry swim-bike-run all morning.
The crazy south easter put an end to the traditional foam bubble bath & beach slide but kids are always stoked in a pool, on the beach and climbing jungle gyms.
Ages 3 to 9 lined up - some braver than others but once they completed a lap spirits soared & smiles amplified.
Some did lots of laps, some did less but they each took on the challenge & earned bragging rights for life.
One day a BLT winner may well hold up their S&D certificate
Kids you rocked!! πΈππ½π€©

To the victor comes the spoils π»ππ
Hard work should always be rewarded. There were performances that took massive amounts of time & discipline and these podiumers deserved the big medals, hand made seabird trophies and their applause up on stage. We salute each of you!! ππ½ππΌπͺ½π
The rest of us celebrated a very special endorphin loaded day out in nature and this post race feast was a fitting way to end the day. ππππ₯ππ·πΉπΊ
Seeing where the bar sits will inspire many to climb into the top 3 in their category or practice downing beer to be selected for their club to the legendary boat race which is always a highlight.
Life is all about balance. Pitch up. Work hard. Play hard.
Well played everyone - you are all heroβs π¦Έπ½ββοΈπ¦ΈπΌββοΈπ«΅π½π

Why do we train hard, buy the fast kit, swerve the odd extra glass of wine, pace ourselves and dig deep towards the final laps of the run??
You guessed it - to hit that finish line looking powerful and stoked of course!! π€π½π₯³πΈ
The moment it all comes together. Your fans cheering, music pumping and the clown dressed like a gladiator Cupid firing arrows of love at your toit ass. πΉπ
Yeah baby - you either pulled a blue steel pose or let the yelps of joy & the occasional tears flow as you crossed the blue carpet through the gates of love & happiness. The emotion was real.
Letβs take a look back at your big moment last Saturday when you beat back your inner fears, gave the wind a middle finger and summited the climb a few times.
What a privilege to welcome 100βs of elated souls to the unforgettable moment that we all treasure.
One day youβll look back at these pics and be SO glad you triβd ππΌππ½ππΊπ½πππΏπ¦π

The business end of a triathlon is very dependable. Bike for show, RUN for dough π°
You can rely on feeling more exhausted than you planned to off the bike - and you can rely on the wind or swell not affecting the planned course distance.
Itβs hard and thatβs why the biggest gains or losses happen here, the part that separates the wood from the chaffe. This one would have hurt that much deeper after fighting the wind in the aero tuck.
Fortunately wind is a giant fan keeping temperatures cooler than we have often felt them in February.
This lap course is short & punchy, with good crowd & marshal support to keep spirits high. The short steep climb up to the windmill came with a handy tailwind this year and the views and buzzing drink & snack station on the other side gave you reason to get over the top on each lap.
We canβt quite work out if it was the cautious expenditure of energy and intake of fuel that led to runners being seemingly stronger than ever, but the amount of walk/shufflers dropped and the smiles and high speed high fives on the finish line displayed unprecedented stoke levels ππΏπ¦πβπ½ππΊπ½
Thank you Biogen, Oasis and Racefood for the cold, healthy and tasty fuel calories plus the Jawitz crew and our always awesome marshals from neighbouring Longacres & Curro schools.
2, 4 or 6 laps - you nailed them and have the medal to show for it heroβs ππ½ββοΈππΎββοΈππΌπ

South African Triathlon Series

Non drafting triathlon bike racing is a proper test of power, aerodynamics and efficiency. When thereβs nobody to hide behind and howling head wind, βsh gets realβ as they say.
The downwind out towards Saldahna Bay gave everyone a head start with massive average speeds but all of a sardine they hit the turnaround andβ¦ouch.
This was no typical prevailing southerly, it was 40kmh with gusts up to 60! π
Did you keep your sh together? Did you keep your head down and cadence up, knowing it was the same for everyone and that there were big gains to be made if you had tri bars & put in the work when others were munching mince pies over the holidays? π₯§π

The all new hill climb added another challenge and some body posture relief as the cherry on top - but then you were rewarded with a silky smooth road and sweet views as you flew back home to Mykonos.
Letβs take a look at the faces & paces that took you from warm flat swim to the steep up & down run.
Multisport rocks cos each leg ends and gives you a chance to make up places.
South African Triathlon Series

What differentiates triathlon from mainstream endurance sports is the open water swim.
Itβs always exciting, sometimes scary, always fresh, typically scenic and always high energy after the start horn, filled with crowd cheers and caffeine πππ½π₯³π©΅
For the opening leg of race 1 of the South African Triathlon Series, big swell and high winds forced a safety move to plan C courses. These were held entirely within the yacht marina. The die hards missed the adrenaline pumping open ocean action but most were more than content to swap the white sand beach start for a relatively flat 20+ degree harbour swim.
After an emotional & fitting early morning tribute in the cool breeze - saluting the spirit of South Africans & the multisport community here, we witnessed some super fast splits from the likes of Nick Quenet & Aidan Peterson and everyone emerged on the slipway with big smiles. πΏπ¦π«Άπ½
The 600m dash through the kalivas up to Transition seemed an ideal opportunity to regroup & warm up the pins for the windy ride we all new lay ahead.
Enjoy reliving the Ultra, Standard and Sprint as we load each discipline throughout the week.
That was a groovy way to kick off Valentineβs Day and the 2026 Tri season ππ₯°π
