The Flowers of the Sea 🪸🌸🌻🌺

Scleractinian (Hard) corals basically absorb Calcium carbonate out of the water to produce hard, rock-like, limestone skeletons. Over 170 million years this colonial structure-building has produced the worlds coral reefs and coral islands, as generation after generation of coral animals build their ‘homes’ on top of one another.

Countless other species rely on the reef in one way or another at some stage in their lifecycle, 25% of all marine fish species use reefs and their associated habitats as nursery zones. If you think about it, that means almost a quarter of all fish in the sea rely on coral reefs. MAD

How lucky are we to be able to see something different everyday while scuba diving in Sodwana.
This little Painted Frogfish is probably half the size of the palm of your hand 🤌🏼 with its amazing patterns and colours, it was a great find!

After an incredible week both above and below the surface, it was time for a well-earned decompression stop. Just as every great dive ends with a safe stop, our team took a moment to unwind at Mgoboseleni Viewpoint, reflecting on a busy and rewarding week in Sodwana Bay. 💚🌊

Over the past week, the Scuba Centre team has proudly:

🪸 Helped certified divers refine safe, comfortable diving techniques while exploring the remarkable marine ecosystems of Sodwana Bay

Jumping Sand 🦐🦐🦐 swipe right for a video :]]

This is sand and shell debris, which, while you watch, starts jumping. The jumping sand is caused by amphipods which live inside the shells and sometimes stick bits of shell together with a fine silk for protection. They are a soft body shrmip like creature, members of the amphipod family which vary in size from less than a mm to about 35 cm.

They found around the sandy areas of two mile like on reefs around Chain and Antons. These amazing macro shots of them were taken by our clients - Chris and Dudley ☺️💚

Sodwana Bay is a unique diving destination with reefs that have pinnacles 5m high home to many pelagics that come and go. There are all different kinds of species of marine invertebrates, animals that have no spine like nudibranchs and octopus and crustaceans.

Here at Sodwana Bay Lodge SCUBA CENTRE, we offer PADI courses from Open Water all the way up to Instructors. If you want to try and dive and see what it is like, we recommend doing a Discover Scuba Diving course where you can learn the basics on how to scuba dive and explore the marine environment. It is an unforgettable experience!

ANOTHER epic dive in Sodwana Bay with Scuba Centre ! 😛💚 A whale shark was spotted on our dive this morning with the one and only Thobani. It has been a long time since we’ve seen one.

What an awesome sighting and it is good news to know that they are still around!
