📢 Important Update: Evolution of Kolano Blitz Wednesdays

We are excited to announce a strategic shift in our tournament schedule. To elevate the level of competition and give everyone more time to prepare, we are transitioning from a weekly format to a high-stakes Monthly Blitz!
While the frequency is changing, the intensity remains the same. Expect the same fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping chess you love, now distilled into one powerhouse event per month.

🗓️ The New Schedule

Starting this month, we will move away from weekly gatherings. The Monthly Blitz will take place on the last Wednesday of every month.
* Inaugural Event: Wednesday, January 28, 2026
* Time: [Insert Start Time, e.g., 18:00]
* Format: Blitz (Time control remains the same)

💰 Entry Fee & Prizes
To ensure we maintain the quality of our events, there is a slight adjustment to the entry requirements:
* Entry Fee: R30 per event
* Prizes: The prize pool remains unchanged! You’ll still be competing for the same rewards you’ve come to expect from Kolano.

Why the change?

Holidays are over and we all don't have as much time as before.

Also, by moving to a monthly format, we aim to make each "Blitz Wednesday" a premier event on your calendar—bringing together the strongest players for a more concentrated and prestigious competition.

Tournament Report: Blitz Wednesdays by Kolano

The rivalry at the top of the leaderboard reached a fever pitch this week as Blitz Wednesdays continues to establish itself as the premier mid-week battleground for South African chess.

The Clash of the Titans

The ongoing saga between Master Charlton Mnyasta and Fide Master Banele Mhango "just got too real." In a nail-biting finish, Charlton proved his resilience once again, clinching 1st place and leading the race. However, the margin remains razor-thin, with Banele finishing a mere one point behind him in 2nd.

Fresh Faces and Regional Pride
This edition saw a shift in the status quo. We were thrilled to welcome Thabang Mankga, who made a spectacular inaugural appearance by securing 3rd place on the podium.
For the first time, we witnessed the "Cape Town dominance" being dismantled as Limpopo made its presence felt at the top. Rounding out the top tier was Senzo Magagule, who delivered a solid performance to finish in 4th place.

​Fireworks? More like a total explosion! 💥 This week’s event was the most intense yet, featuring a total takeover by the Cape Town Chess Federation (Black Jack Chess Club) and a massive showing from Bojanala’s "One True FM."

It was a two-horse race that went down to the literal final second! NM Charlton Mnyasta vs. FM Banele Mhango. Both masters went 100% BERSERK from start to finish. 🛡️
​In a heart-stopping finale, Charlton snatched 1st place with 69 points, beating Banele’s 68 by a whisker! 😱
