2. ADULT 4-LESSON COACH PROGRAMME
Course
Adult Learn to Ride β 4 Lesson Course
Price: R1,950
Sessions: 4 Γ 90 minutes
LESSON 1 β INTRODUCTION & BALANCE
Goal: Become comfortable with the bicycle and develop basic balance.
Coach covers:
Bicycle introduction
Correct saddle position
Helmet and safety check
Correct body position
Mounting and dismounting
Walking the bike
Finding balance
Looking forward rather than down
Controlled braking
Starting with assistance
Practical exercises:
Walk-and-glide
Assisted starts
Short balance runs
Controlled stopping
Repeated start/stop practice
Success target:
The student can balance and glide independently and stop the bicycle safely.
LESSON 2 β CONTROL
Goal: Develop reliable control of the bicycle.
Coach covers:
Independent starting
Braking
Steering
Wide turns
Tight turns
Speed control
Looking where you want to go
Basic obstacle awareness
Practical exercises:
Start β ride β stop
Large circles
Figure-8s
Cone weaving
Controlled emergency stops
Slow-speed riding
Success target:
The student can start, ride, steer and stop without assistance.
LESSON 3 β CONFIDENCE & HANDLING
Goal: Move from basic riding to confident bicycle handling.
Coach covers:
Riding in a straight line
Cornering
Different speeds
Avoiding obstacles
Braking while turning
Safe passing
Basic road awareness
Practical exercises:
Cone courses
Cornering drills
Stop/start drills
Obstacle avoidance
Slow-speed balance
Controlled acceleration
Success target:
The student demonstrates consistent control and confidence in a controlled riding environment.
LESSON 4 β REAL-WORLD RIDE
Goal: Put the skills together in a practical riding environment.
Coach covers:
Pre-ride bicycle check
Helmet and safety
Starting safely
Road/path awareness
Basic cycling etiquette
Braking and stopping
Intersections and hazards
Sharing space with pedestrians and cyclists
Practical session: A supervised ride using the student's skills in a suitable real-world environment.
