What a great week for Meyerton Athletics Club following a very successful Madmac Marathon!
A major highlight was seeing our Chairman, Mark Winterbottom, accept some awards on behalf of MAC from Midvaal Mayor Peter Teixeira. The club was honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation and a Certificate of Recognition — a wonderful acknowledgement of the club’s contribution and commitment to the community. Well done to everyone who played a part in making MAC what it is today!
Back on the roads, Tuesday speedwork once again put our athletes to the test, with a few runners looking rather exhausted after another challenging “Pierre-pressure” session! Thursday’s time trial saw the speedsters putting their fitness to the test and checking where they stand.
Unfortunately, the Winterbottoms’ trip to Red Star Raceway for the Sunset Marathon ended in disappointment when the event was rained out. There was, however, plenty of racing action elsewhere. Yolandi Blignaut and Ina De Ponselle proudly represented MAC at the Tommy Malone 15km, while Zanele Mabaso delivered an excellent performance at the Parys Mile, finishing fourth in her category.
Saturday was the turn for the MadMac helpers and Marshall's to see the route from the runners point of view, and the annual Madmac Helpers run was a great success.
Sunday morning brought more opportunities to get those kilometres in. Samantha and Juanita joined the PPT group for a challenging hill session, while the Goosie Run continues to attract growing numbers as the beautiful weather brings more runners out to enjoy their morning.
The SAF group also enjoyed a fantastic run starting from Lynca, followed by a great social visit afterwards — another reminder that at MAC, it’s not just about running, but also about friendship, community and spending time together.
