ποΈ THE BLINDFOLD CHALLENGE
Today, our members took part in a challenge that was about so much more than simply putting on a blindfold.
For a few moments, we took away something we normally never have to think about β our ability to see.
And suddenly, everything changed.
Scary, Dark, Unfamiliar, Daunting, Uncertain, No control β it felt weird. Everything sounded much closer. You have to trust someone else.
A tiny bump in the ground suddenly felt like a huge hole. Lifting your feet became difficult. You became aware of every step. You wanted your feet close to the ground because you couldn't see what was coming next.
And perhaps the biggest lesson?
Learning to trust someone else when you couldn't trust your own senses. π€
For us, it lasted only a few minutes.
For someone who is blind or visually impaired, this isn't a challenge that ends when the blindfold comes off.
Today reminded us not to take the simple things for granted β seeing where we're going, knowing what's around us, moving independently, and feeling confident in our surroundings.
π We may have started today thinking we were doing a challengeβ¦ but we finished it with a little more understanding, a little more empathy, and a whole new appreciation for something we often take for granted.
Sometimes you have to experience the world differently to see it in a completely different way. π£π
