🐎 Cor de la Bryere the legendary French-bred stallion who revolutionized modern warmblood jumping horse breeding.🌟

When horse breeders talk about the greatest stallions in history, one name is guaranteed to enter the conversation—Cor de la Bryère, affectionately known as "Corde." 🏆

Born in France in 1968, this remarkable Selle Français stallion would go on to transform modern sport horse breeding, particularly in show jumping. His influence remains visible today in countless international champions, making him one of the most important foundation sires of the last century.

🇫🇷 Humble Beginnings

Cor de la Bryère was foaled on 23 April 1968 in Yvré-le-Pôlin, France. He was bred by Thérèse Essayan and was sired by the Thoroughbred Rantzau, out of the Selle Français mare Quenotte B. His pedigree combined Thoroughbred blood with French sport horse quality, producing a stallion blessed with athleticism, elasticity, and intelligence.

Ironically, his future almost took a very different path.

As a young horse, Cor de la Bryère failed to impress the French approval committee, who even recommended he be gelded. Thankfully, visionary breeder Xavier Ribard believed in the young stallion's potential and purchased him. Just a few years later, the Holsteiner Verband in Germany recognised something special and imported him in 1971—a decision that would forever change European horse breeding.

🇩🇪 A Perfect Match with Holstein

The German Holsteiner breeders already possessed mares with tremendous strength and power. What they needed was a stallion capable of improving technique, elasticity and rideability.

Cor de la Bryère delivered exactly that.

He possessed an extraordinary jumping style known as bascule—the perfect rounded arc over a fence with quick, tidy front legs and incredible balance. His offspring became famous for their natural jumping ability, careful technique and willingness to work.

Many breeders described him as a true "gift from heaven."

🏅 A Stallion That Redefined Show Jumping

While Cor de la Bryère himself was admired, it was through his offspring that his greatness truly emerged.

He produced more than 85 approved sons and countless successful daughters, creating breeding dynasties that continue today. His sons included famous names such as:

Many Olympic and World Championship horses trace directly back to him, proving that outstanding genetics can shape generations.

Landgraf I: The Holsteiner Legend Who Shaped Modern Show Jumping 🐴✨

Few stallions have left a hoofprint as deep as Landgraf I. Born in 1966, this iconic Holsteiner stallion became one of the most influential sires in modern sport horse breeding, especially in show jumping. 🏆

Landgraf I carried the valuable blood of Ladykiller xx, a Thoroughbred sire who helped refine the Holsteiner breed with athleticism, stamina, and elegance. At first, Landgraf I was reportedly overlooked because of that Thoroughbred influence, but his exceptional jumping ability soon changed opinions. The Holsteiner Verband notes that he became a cornerstone of modern sport horse breeding and produced over 60 licensed stallions plus many international show jumpers.

What made Landgraf I so special was not only his own talent, but his ability to pass it on. His offspring were known for scope, power, presence, and competitive spirit. Breeding sources describe his young stock as sometimes late-developing, but gifted with serious jumping ability that improved with maturity.

His influence spread far beyond Germany. Landgraf I’s descendants appear in pedigrees across Europe and North America, continuing to shape elite jumping lines today. Many breeders still value his blood for adding rideability, type, and performance potential to modern warmbloods. 🌍

🏆 Voltaire: The Legendary Showjumping Stallion That Changed Sport Horse Breeding Forever 🐎

When discussing the greatest showjumping stallions of all time, one name consistently stands out—Voltaire. A horse that combined elite athletic performance with extraordinary breeding influence, Voltaire helped shape modern showjumping around the world. Decades after his competitive career ended, his bloodlines continue to dominate international arenas, proving that true greatness leaves a lasting legacy. 🌍✨

🌟 The Early Years

Voltaire was foaled in 1979 and was originally known as Vertuoso. This handsome bay stallion was bred by E. Kuwet and carried an exceptional pedigree. His sire, Furioso II, was already recognised as one of Europe's most influential sport horse sires, while his dam, Gogo Moeve, brought the renowned Hanoverian jumping blood of Gotthard into his lineage. This combination created a horse with exceptional scope, bravery, and athleticism.

Interestingly, Voltaire nearly missed his chance to become a breeding legend. Due to his relatively small stature and a hoof defect, he was initially rejected by some licensing commissions. Fortunately, breeders recognised his incredible natural jumping ability, and he eventually gained approval with several major studbooks including KWPN, Hanoverian, Oldenburg, and Selle Français.

🏅 A Brilliant Showjumping Career

Voltaire wasn't simply a successful breeding stallion—he first proved himself where it mattered most: in the competition arena.

Ridden by Dutch showjumping star Jos Lansink, Voltaire quickly established himself as one of Europe's elite jumpers. His power, careful technique, and competitive spirit made him a standout performer on some of the world's biggest stages.

His finest season came in 1988, when he claimed victory in numerous prestigious Nations Cup competitions, including:
