THE HUNT MAY BE OVER… BUT THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES!

Rick & Jill’s African Safari | Chapter: From Family to New Adventures

The wish list was complete. Every dream, every target, every unforgettable moment… ticked off.

After an incredible adventure through Mpumalanga and Limpopo, it was time to slow things down. A well-deserved day to relax, pack our bags, and take a moment to appreciate everything we had experienced.

But with Rick and Jill, it’s never just about the hunting. They have become part of the Zingela Family.

That evening, we gathered my family around the fire for a proper South African braai. Good food, cold drinks, laughter, and stories that only get better with every telling.

We shared memories of the hunt that had just come to an end. The excitement, the challenges, the incredible animals, and those moments that will stay with us forever.

And, of course… we started planning the next adventure. Because once you’ve experienced Africa like this, one safari is never enough.

THE NEXT MORNING…

We said our goodbyes and hit the road to Johannesburg. One night to rest, one more sleep, and then it was time to board an early flight to the next destination.

The next chapter of this incredible safari was waiting for us.

ZAMBIA.

TIGER FISHING ON THE MIGHTY ZAMBEZI RIVER.

From the thrill of the hunt to the rush of a powerful tiger fish smashing the lure… the adventure was far from over.

The ri**es were packed away.

The fishing rods were ready.

And the Zambezi was calling.

The next adventure begins…

Stay tuned for the next chapter of Rick & Jill’s African adventure with Zingela Game Tracker Safaris.

FOUR TROPHIES. ONE UNFORGETTABLE DAY.

We wanted this day to COUNT.

Jill still had one trophy firmly on her mind — her warthog. And Rick had his sights set on a gemsbuck.

So, we headed out.

Not long into the hunt, we came across a few gemsbuck. Then we spotted him…

A very nice bull.

Rick was ready.

The shot rang out — and straight into the bag he went.

One down.

But Jill's warthog was still out there somewhere…

We kept moving, glassing, searching… and then…

THERE IT WAS.

Jill took a deep breath.

One last moment of focus.

She settled in, took the shot…

DOWN IT WENT.

The smiles said it all. Jill had her warthog. Rick had his gemsbuck.

But we weren't finished yet.

We knew we wanted to head out again that night.

The temperature had dropped, although thankfully it wasn't the Mpumalanga-freezing kind of cold!

Tonight was all about the night creatures.

We settled into the blind and waited.

Quiet.

Still.

Patient.

We were hoping for a brown hyena.

Minutes passed…

Then suddenly…

RUSTLE.

Something was moving in the bush.

We froze.

We listened.

Another movement…

But it wasn't the hyena.

Honey badgers.

They moved through the darkness, keeping just out of sight before disappearing into the bush.

We waited.

And waited.

Then…

THERE IT WAS.

A brown hyena stepped into view.

And this wasn't just any hyena.

It was a very old brown hyena.

Rick was ready.

The moment came.

The shot broke the silence…

DOWN.

Brown hyena in the bag.

But then, just when we thought the night couldn't get any more interesting…

THE HONEY BADGERS RETURNED.

We could hear them, but they refused to come into view.

So we made a decision.

We left the blind and headed out to find them.

And then…

There they were.

Only about 100 yards from the blind.

Rick settled in.

One perfect shot…

And another trophy was secured.

Four trophies.

One day.

Gemsbuck. Warthog. Brown hyena. Honey badger.

Not too bad for a day's work!

And once again, the African bush reminded us…

You never really know what is waiting around the next corner.

The One We Were Looking For…

After the excitement of the crocodile hunt, the next morning called for a slower start.

A late breakfast, a little time to breathe, and then we loaded everything onto the hunting vehicle. The plan was simple — head out and see what the day would bring.

There was one animal on our minds…

Warthog.

We were hoping for a good, mature boar, but as the hours passed, nothing worthwhile crossed our path. Sometimes Africa makes you wait.

So we headed back to the lodge, finished up for the day, and took a little time to rest.

But the hunt wasn't over yet.

As the evening settled in, we headed back out.

This time, the mission was different.

Caracal.

The darkness closed in around us. The hours passed. Every movement in the grass had us watching. Every flicker in the spotlight made us wonder…

Was this going to be the night?

And then…

There it was.

The one we had been waiting for.

For a moment, everything stood still.

Rick settled in. The opportunity was there.

He took the shot.

And just like that — the tension broke.

Excitement filled the vehicle as we realised we had found exactly what we had been looking for.

Another unforgettable African night. Another trophy in the bag. And another story to add to the adventure.

Now it was time for a well-earned night's rest…

Because in Africa, you never know what tomorrow might bring.

LIMPOPO — WHEN THE CROCODILE FOUGHT BACK

This morning, the mission was clear.

Find a big crocodile. Get close. And take it with a handgun.

Sounds simple enough… until you actually have to get within handgun range of one of Africa’s most powerful predators.

We spent the morning scouting water after water, glassing the banks and searching for the right opportunity. Nothing was quite what we were looking for.

Until finally… we found him.

A big crocodile lying exactly where we needed him.

But getting into position was another story.

We left the vehicle and began the stalk, slowly working our way through thick bushes and trees. There was no easy approach. We crawled, crouched and, at times, moved on all fours, carefully closing the distance.

Every step had to be right.

Finally, Rick was in position.

The handgun came up.

The crocodile was there…

The moment had arrived.

Rick squeezed the trigger.

The shot caught the crocodile.

Before anyone had much time to react, Rick took another shot.

Again, the crocodile was hit… and this time, it was over.

The crocodile was down.

But then we looked at Rick.

Blood was running down his face.

The handgun had nicked Rick between the eyes, leaving him with a nasty-looking scar right down the middle of his forehead.

Thankfully, it looked far worse than it actually was.

But there is no doubt about one thing…

Rick is going to have a story — and a scar — to remember this crocodile by for the rest of his life.

Some hunting memories stay in your trophy room.

Others stay on your face.

And this one?

This one is definitely going to be hard to forget.

INTO LIMPOPO

The road led us north today… Limpopo was calling.

After the adventures of Mpumalanga, we packed up and headed for our next hunting ground. By the time we arrived at the lodge, it was time to settle in, unpack, and get comfortable in our new surroundings.

But there was no time to sit around for too long.

Before tomorrow’s hunt, we headed out to the range to get the ri**es dialled in and make sure everything was ready for the days ahead.

Ri**es checked.
Zeroes confirmed.
Gear ready.
And the excitement is building.

Tomorrow, we head out for another full day in the African bush.

New ground. New tracks. New opportunities.

And as always with a Zingela safari… you never quite know what is waiting around the next corner.

Tomorrow, the real hunting begins.

Stay tuned

THE FINAL NIGHT IN MPUMALANGA

Every adventure has a moment when everything comes together.

Our final day in Mpumalanga had arrived.

And this time…
it was Jill's turn.

She had been watching the bush carefully, waiting for her opportunity.

Her eyes were on a beautiful fellow deer.

The moment came.
She settled in.
One shot.

And what a shot it was!

There were smiles all around and more than a few impressed faces.

Jill had made it count.

Another trophy in the bag.

Later, we came across a very nice Lechwe.

This time, it was Rick's turn again.

He took the shot…
and just like that — Lechwe down.

Two more trophies added to the adventure.

But as the afternoon rolled around, there was still one unfinished piece of business.

We headed back to the guesthouse, finished up, grabbed what we needed and prepared ourselves for one final night in the Mpumalanga bush.

And there was only one animal on our minds.

THE SERVAL.
We had been looking.
We had been waiting.
We had come close.

But tonight was our last chance.
The temperature dropped.
Darkness settled over the bush.

And once again, we headed out into that freezing Mpumalanga night.

Hours passed.

Then suddenly…

THERE IT WAS.

A Serval.

But Africa wasn't going to make it easy.

It was partially hidden behind the grass.

We couldn't take the shot.

So we waited.
And waited.
Nobody moved.
Nobody rushed it.
We watched.

The seconds felt like minutes.

Then finally…
it stepped out.

Clear.
Perfect.

The moment we'd been waiting for had arrived.

Rick settled in.
The r***e came up.
The bush went silent.

CRACK.

And that was it.

SERVAL DOWN.

After all the cold nights, the waiting, the searching and the missed opportunities…

the Serval was finally in the bag.

And what a way to end our time in Mpumalanga.

Rick and Jill had come with a wishlist.

And one by one, Africa had started ticking those boxes.

But the adventure isn't over.

Not even close.

Tomorrow we leave the cold country side of Mpumalanga behind…
and head north to Limpopo.

More plains game.
Another challenge.
And one very special animal still on the wishlist…

A CROCODILE.

The landscape will change.
The temperatures will rise.

And the next chapter is about to begin.
What will Limpopo have waiting for us?

Stay tuned…
because the best may still be ahead.

DAY 3 — THE ONE WE WERE LOOKING FOR

Some animals you find.
Others make you work for them.

Day 3 started before the Mpumalanga winter had a chance to warm up.

Our target for the morning was a Saddleback Blesbuck ram.

We headed out, and the trackers went to work.

Tracks were found.
The trail was followed.
Then lost.
Then picked up again.

The hours passed…

Until finally…

THERE HE WAS.

A beautiful Saddleback ram.

Not just any ram — the ram we had come looking for.

Rick took his time, and when the opportunity presented itself, he made the shot count.

Saddleback Blesbuck — in the bag.

But there was no time to sit around and celebrate for too long.

We headed back to the guesthouse to rest, because tonight was going to be another long one.

And this time, the list was different.

Porcupine.
A big Duiker.
And if luck was on our side…

A Serval.

That last one was the dream.

As darkness fell, the temperature dropped with it.

Mpumalanga's winter nights can be brutal. The kind of cold that finds every gap in your clothing and makes sitting still feel like a serious test of endurance.

But nobody was complaining.

Because when you're sitting in the darkness waiting for Africa to reveal itself…

you forget about the cold.

The hours passed.

Then…

PORCUPINE.

We had our first opportunity.

Another animal added to the night's story.

But we weren't done.
We kept moving.
Scanning.

Waiting.

Watching every patch of grass and every movement in the darkness.

Then came a few sightings of duiker.
Too quick.
Too far.

Wrong opportunity.
We kept going.

Until finally…

the right duiker appeared.

A beautiful animal.
The moment came.

The shot broke the silence.

DUIKER— DOWN.
Another successful night in the Mpumalanga bush.

But there was still one animal missing from the list.

The Serval.

We had one night left.

One more chance.

One more night of freezing temperatures, darkness and endless bush.

Would we finally get lucky?

Would those unmistakable markings appear in the spotlight?

Or would the Serval remain just out of reach?

Tomorrow night would tell us.

And believe me…
you don't want to miss what happened next.

DAY 2 — INTO THE DARKNESS

The first night in the bush… and Africa wasted no time.

After arriving in Mpumalanga, getting settled and shooting in our ri**es, there wasn't much time to rest.

As the sun disappeared behind the mountains, we headed out into the darkness.

The mission was simple:

Find Africa's nocturnal creatures.

But Mpumalanga had other plans for us…

THE COLD.

Mpumalanga winters are no joke. As darkness settled over the bush, the temperature dropped rapidly. Sitting quietly in the hunting vehicle, waiting for those telltale eyes to appear, every breath seemed to remind us just how cold it really was.

But then…

EYES IN THE DARKNESS.

An African Wildcat.

Silent. Alert. Completely at home beneath the night sky.

We settled in, waited for the right opportunity…
and Rick made it count.

AFRICAN WILDCAT — DOWN.

One beautiful nocturnal animal in the bag.

But the night wasn't finished with us yet.

We continued through the darkness, scanning the bush and watching every movement.

Then…

A STEENBOK.

Tiny. Fast. Extremely alert.

Another opportunity presented itself.

Another careful shot.

And another success.

STEENBOK — DOWN.

Two animals on the very first night.

Two trophies earned in the freezing Mpumalanga darkness.

Not a bad way to begin a hunt.

But here's the thing about Africa…

You can never predict what comes next.

Rick and Jill have hunted with us before. They're not first-time visitors anymore — they're part of our Zingela Family.

They know that the best hunts aren't always about what you expect to find.

Sometimes it's the unexpected moments…

The freezing nights.

The silence.

The sudden appearance of an animal you've been searching for.

And the memories created between the moments of the hunt.

Tonight, the African Wildcat and Steenbok are in the bag.

But tomorrow…
the sun will rise again over Mpumalanga.

The ri**es will be loaded.

And somewhere out there…
something bigger is waiting.

What will Africa give us next?

Stay tuned.

The adventure has only just begun…
