We are extreme excited to see some of the best players from SA in action 🇿🇦, as well as players from Zimbabwe🇿🇼, Egypt🇪🇬 and Pakistan🇵🇰.
Entry is FREE for members of the public.

What an amazing end to an incredible week of squash at Mossel Bay Squash Club !!

We made history this week by hosting the first ever PSA World Championships Qualifier event in South Africa! And Dewald van Niekerk just knew how to put the cherry on top: By fighting back from 0-2 down, and saving match ball in the 4th, to QUALIFY for the PSA World Championships with a 3-2 victory🔥🇿🇦.

And Nadien Elhammamy showed pure class with a textbook performance to win her final 3-0🔥🇪🇬

We are so proud to have been hosts for this event and thankful to the PSA Squash Tour for giving us this opportunity 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼🌍🙏.

Finalists Decided After High-Stakes Semi-Finals in Mossel Bay

The semi-final stage of the 2024–2025 PSA World Championship Qualifying Event – Africa treated squash fans in Mossel Bay to a gripping evening of action, with four top-class matches determining the finalists in both the men's and women’s draws.

In the women’s event, [3] Nour Khafagy (EGY) overcame top seed Amina El Rihany (EGY) in a five-game thriller lasting over an hour. After trading games, Khafagy kept her composure in the decider to earn a 3-2 victory and secure her spot in the final. On the other side of the draw, [6] Nadien Elhammamy (EGY) produced another confident display, breezing past [4] Menna Walid (EGY) in straight games.

In the men’s competition, [1] Aly Hussein (EGY) had to dig deep against a determined [4] Ziad Ibrahim (EGY). After dropping the second game, Hussein raised his level to close out a 3-1 win in 70 minutes. South Africa’s [2] Dewald van Niekerk continued his outstanding form with a dominant 3-0 victory over [5] Yassin Shohdy (EGY). With a packed home crowd behind him, Van Niekerk delivered once again with a powerful and composed performance to reach the final.

With the finals now set, local anticipation is high for what promises to be an electric conclusion to this prestigious African qualifier.

Top Seeds Advance as Quarter-Finals Light Up Mossel Bay

Day two of the 2024–2025 PSA World Championship Qualifying Event – Africa delivered drama and intensity as the quarter-finals unfolded at the MBSC in Mossel Bay. A full-capacity crowd once again brought the atmosphere, with local fans and juniors captivated by the stakes and spectacle.

In the women’s division, [1] Amina El Rihany (EGY) advanced with a 3-1 win over [7] Lojayn Gohary. [3] Nour Khafagy (EGY) dispatched [5] Salma El Alfy in straight games, while [4] Menna Walid (EGY) held off a spirited effort from [8] Teagan Leigh Russell (RSA) to win 3-1. [6] Nadien Elhammamy (EGY) was clinical in a 3-0 win over [2] Hayley Ward (RSA).

In the men’s draw, [1] Aly Hussein (EGY) continued his commanding form with a dominant 3-0 victory over [7] Shady Sherbiny. [4] Ziad Ibrahim (EGY) controlled the court in his win over Ryan Gwidzima (ZIM).

However, the longest match of the day — between [3] Mohamed Nasser (EGY) and [5] Yassin Shohdy (EGY) — was marred by controversy. Despite lasting an epic 101 minutes, the match was disrupted by frequent injury breaks and several disputed decisions, detracting from the quality and rhythm expected at this level. Both players ultimately struggled to showcase the professionalism and standard typical of PSA competition, with Shohdy edging through in five games.

[2] Dewald van Niekerk (RSA) brought the house down in the final match of the evening. With the capacity crowd fully behind South Africa’s No. 1, Van Niekerk rose to the occasion and delivered a polished, professional performance to defeat Egypt’s Adam Hawal 3-1. His composed play and determination had fans on their feet throughout the contest, capping off the night on a high for the local supporters.

As the event progresses, the excitement in Mossel Bay continues to grow — with packed crowds and young local talent drawing inspiration from the opportunity to watch the continent’s best compete on home soil.

World Championship Qualifiers Kick Off with High Drama in Mossel Bay
The opening day of the 2024–2025 PSA World Championship Qualifying Event – Africa brought world-class squash to Mossel Bay as packed crowds watched some of the continent’s finest athletes battle for a coveted spot in the PSA World Championships.

In the women’s draw, all seeded players advanced confidently, with [8] Teagan Leigh Russell (RSA) winning a fiercely contested four-game match against Helena Coetzee (RSA). Egypt’s [3] Nour Khafagy, [4] Menna Walid, and [6] Nadien Elhammamy also delivered dominant straight-game wins.

The men’s matches featured strong performances from the top seeds, with [1] Aly Hussein (EGY) and [3] Mohamed Nasser (EGY) progressing smoothly. [4] Ziad Ibrahim (EGY) came through one of the day’s most gripping encounters, edging Kareem Badawi (EGY) in a thrilling five-set battle that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. [8] seed Yehia Essam (EGY) fell to an inspired performance by Ryan Gwidzima (ZIM), and Adam Hawal (EGY) upset [6] Abdalla Hafez in another five-set classic.
