Mossel Bay players dominated the B-section at the Southern Knights Open, taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. And one of our rising stars placed 2nd in the A-section.

RAYNIER CLAASSEN CLIMBS GLOBAL CHESS RANKING'S LADDER AFTER VICTORY OVER SWISS PLAYER AT TOURNAMENT IN BRAZIL
Raynier Claassen, a grade 8 learner at Point High School who recently represented South Africa from 23 October to 12
November in Brazil in an international chess
competition.
Raynier's best result was beating a Swiss player, Colin Federer, who is much higher rated than him.
Raynier's Final position is 53rd out of the 118 best players for his age group.
Raynier is currently ranked first in the
Western Cape, second in South Africa and first in Africa
in the u/14 age group in chess. Among other things,
he holds the title of FIDE Master in the African Youth
Championships.
FIDE (stands for Fédération Internationale des Échecs),
is the governing body for the game of chess. Raynier
Claassen is a member of the Mossel Bay Chess Club and
the only selected player in the Garden Route district who
represented South Africa in Brazil.
