⚠️WARNING - GRAPHIC IMAGES⚠️ - We were invited to observe as Oceans Research and Sea Search conducted an autopsy on this titan of the ocean this morning - we've never seen a Great White shark up close and were curious to learn a little. They removed a baby seal from its belly, and here, is a picture of its heart, you’ll see, not too much bigger than our own - this amazed me because of the sheer strength of this animal, I'd have imagined its heart to have been bigger to power it's incredible strength and agility. This fish, an apex predator in our oceans, falling victim to an even greater apex predator, the Orca (aka Killer whale), both animals perfect in their Creator’s design for their respective roles in our ecosystem… yet their mutual feeding habits evolving, creating much curiosity as to why… truly a magnificent creature to behold and respect, and understandably, bittersweet to witness the brutality of nature 🦈🐳🐬

WARNING - Graphic Images - You may have heard that the two Orca, Port & Starboard were seen in the area over the long weekend and this Great White measuring 2.9m in length washed up on our shore yesterday, its liver removed with surgical precision by the two Orcas - see below. Pics of autopsy done today to follow...

SERENDIPITY AT ITS BEST: IT'S SOUTH AFRICA BABY! 🤙🏽 edition

Chapter 1: From Shark Cage Diving to Scuba Diving With Sharks? (Not Quite, Close Enough)

On this casual yet fateful afternoon, Andrés & Yanyi couldn't go to shark cage diving due to the weather. Before returning to the car, they walked into a diving shop that ultimately became their favorite spot in Mossel Bay along the Garden Route. The dive shop owner/instructors Leanne and her son Josh were once friendly strangers who turned into dear family friends!

Leanne captivated Yanyi & Andres with her sense of humor, charisma and helpful nature. Even without committing to a course on the spot, she recommended a local sightseeing spot (Cave of the Human Origin). When Yanyi & Andres decided to spontaneously take on scuba diving certification, Leanne introduced Josh to instruct us! Having only learned to swim in Brazil less than a month ago, Yanyi appreciated Josh's patience and Andres appreciated his merticulous teaching method!

Okay, this post is sounding more and more like a TripAdvisor review 😂🤣😂 let's reel it back and cut to the chase:

Dear Leanne & Josh🤗, you're our highlight in South Africa! Thank you for sharing your ZA sense of humor & lived experiences, those delicious meals & teas & coffee, offering your home, braving the brutal cold water of Mossel Bay 😉, taking endless photos 😘, checking in daily with weather report, encouraging us every step of the way, making sure we feel at home and receive our Naui Open Water certificates! Meeting people like you are our visions and motivations to keep going on this wild world-wide journey. Thank you for teaching us tools to expand our playground. Sending you so much love & warmth & peace as we continue to journey together and share our serendipity_footprints in this virtual space until we cross paths again! 🥰🥰🥰

Another gorgeous gastropod caught on camera at Mitch reef by , the aptly named Gasflame nudibranch (Bonisa nakaza) - we've been asked by many, why all the psychedelics, are these little guys toxic or is it just for our diving pleasure? Well, the short answer is, some of them are, many vividly coloured creatures use colour to demonstrate the potency of their toxin compounds, which may be manufactured by themselves, some of the toxins they extracy from their spongey diet. Generally, nudibranchs are non-toxic to humans, however, this does not mean you should touch them... so from us to you - DO NOT touch... but you're welcome to wear them... check out our first range of Nudi-apparel at scubanudi.com - link in bio -

So here's a little back story, we're a mom & son duo, both Scuba Instructors, used to diving in let's say, challenging conditions with low viz. We like to focus on the small stuff, get up close and personal with the reef and all it's tiny critters, and when it comes to nudibranchs - we're obsessed and we want to share that with you. We hope to get more opportunities to share our own images, but for now, we'll share some of the amazing images from other creators who do AMAZING work. Today we feature two photos from Pascal van de Vendel - link in comments below - ❤️nudis
