The Newcastle Phoenix CC were invited to play a friendly game against the Harrismith Pheasant Pluckers Cricket Club in Harrismith.

After losing the toss Phoenix were sent in to bat first. A solid second wicket partnership was starting to develop until Drikus Ferreira was caught for 14 runs. Tatum Griffiths and Henri Linde put on a superb performance with the bat, with Tatum scoring 78 runs and Henri quick fire 46 off 22 balls. Phoenix were bowled out for 173.
Tiaan Marias took a fiver for the home side.

With ball in hand Phoenix started taking wickets at regular intervals with the first wicket going down on the first ball of the second innings. Tatum once again shined with the ball and took a fiver for 23 runs in 8 overs. Jaun Kahts, Chris Ewart and Stefan Viviers all took wickets with ball in hand. The Pheasant Pluckers were bowled out for 110. Phoenix won the game with 63 runs.

We would like to thank the Pheasant Pluckers for their hospitality and the very enjoyable game. We look forward to hosting them in Newcastle in the near future.

With the 2019/2020 cricket season coming the business end of things, BlackRock Phoenix faced off against Eagles.
Opting to bat first, Elmar Gouws and Christiaan Smith scored a brilliant half century each and a 126 second wicket partnership. BlackRock Phoenix set a total off 276/7 in 30 overs. The bowling attack took wickets at regular intervals, and bowled them out for 55 runs. This victory secures the BlackRock Phoenix spot in the semi finals of the day league.

On the night league side, Harcourts Phoenix wanted to get back strong after the '19 night league final loss to Paradise.
First up we faced SAPS in the last round robin game. This game saw both side overs being reduced to 12 due to load shedding. SAPS put up a score of 109/3 in their 12 overs. Harcourts Phoenix only managed to 94. John Clark top scoring with a stunning half century.

we ended up high enough in the night league to make the semi finals, where we were up against the same side that beat us two days ago. A fully motivated and high spirited Phoenix squad rock up to play the semi and book our spot in the finals.

Harcourts Phoenix opted to bowl and clinched 6 wickets for a mere 24 runs. SAPS ended on 88/8 in their 25 overs. Leading from the front Jaun Kahts and Drikus Ferreira took 2 wickets each in their opening spells. Harcourts Phoenix went into bat and Neil Smit steered us home for a victory ending up with 90/3 in 22 overs.

With this win Harcourts Phoenix goes top of the log, and will play against Asians next week for the night league trophy

Harcourts Phoenix will take part in the long awaited night league final from 2019 against Renesh Harbhajan and his team from Paradise Cricket Club Newcastle this Friday night at Paradise sports field.

With 3 games been played after our opening losses, Phoenix regrouped and focused on the remaining games ahead.

First up we faced off against Lennoxton CC, and wanting to prove a point after the day league game against them, Harcourts Phoenix Fired on all cylinders. The night game saw Harcourts Phoenix score 141/4 in 25 overs and restricted Lennoxton to just 110/9. Neil Smith top scored with 44 runs followed by Chris Ewart with a respectible 35 runs

Blackrock Phoenix faced off against Paradise CC in an epic thriller of a game. Blackrock Phoenix scored 165 all out in 25.3 overs and came back to defend the total by bowling Paradise out for 153 runs. Christiaan Smith top scored with 51 runs, followed by Ruwayne Chetty and Drikus Ferreia with 25 runs each. John Clark picked up 4 wickets

Next we hosted Renegades. BlackRock Phoenix bowled the opposition out for 102 runs in 30 overs. BlackRock Phoenix chased the score down in 11.5 overs, Chris Ewart was unbeaten on 74 displayed a master class with the bat, whilst Drikus Ferreira dominated the bowling attack with figures of 6 wickets for 8 runs in 6 overs.

MATCH RESULT VS WARRIORS
BlackRock Phoenix won the toss and elected to bat first.
Henri Linde and Drikus Ferreira looked good at the start of the innings. BlackRock Phoenix was bowled out for 103 runs .
Warriors batted second and achieved the target for the loss of one wicket. Well done to Tatum and his team.
Not the start we wanted but can take a lot of positives from the game.

MATCH RESULT VS PARADISE CC
SPUR SATURDAY TROPHY

In a much anticipated match against Paradise CC for the Spur Saturday league, BlackRock Phoenix lost the toss and was sent to field first. With rain looming in the air Paradise Cricket Club Newcastle managed to get to a score of 107/4 after 25 overs with Yashvir and Hussain top scoring for them. Rain started to pour down. Umpires called the game, and with no reserve day scheduled, BlackRock Phoenix win by means of log position.
