EXTREME CONDITIONS SEE HISTORIC ABSA CAPE EPIC STAGE TIME EXTENSION 26/03/2023

This is a result of yesterday's extreme condition's....shame Cape Epic team were not able to respond to changing condition's and make changes as situation unfolded. Bikes, tracks and riders was damaged and this in part could been avoided by better monitoring of the situation.

EXTREME CONDITIONS SEE HISTORIC ABSA CAPE EPIC STAGE TIME EXTENSION For the first time in the race’s history, the Absa Cape Epic extended a stage...

Stage 6 done, it was a disaster.....rained just about the whole time and the tracks became unrideable. With a cut off of 7 & Β½ hours things was looking pretty tight for us, we got to the 2nd aid and the time limit was extended to 8hrs....good news we made it (7.30.25 so just under Β½ an hour inside cut off) and get to race tomorrow. Brett was struggling to ride the speed needed for making cut off in those conditions, then I completely wore out my brake pads with about 20km to go, had me running a lot of downhill sections to the finish line.
Tomorrow, time to get this job doneπŸ…πŸ…

Post note; another 45 mins (taking it to 8.45hrs) was added yesterday evening after riders were told they missed the cut off and had their numbers cut off. First time in history this has been done by Cape Epic , only done after their sweepers rode in last and told how unrideable the course had become.

We all had to deal with, even the pros did not get a clean run through the mud.

Photos from Two Broke Builders Epic Series MTB Team's post 24/03/2023

Queen stage done....99km with 30kms climbing to start the day, tracks were rivers after the storms last night...mud was the theme of the day.
Horrible mandatory walking section at about 60km, about 1km down hill on slippy rocks that were wet and muddy....not fun in stiff carbon soled mountain bike race shoes.
Time to head off and do the cleaning. Tomorrow's stage is 70km that does leave the wine estate that is our race village for next two nights.

There's rain in them there hills...... got wild here, thunder, lightning, and heavy rain. Quite a few leaking tents....none are pegged out probably for rain and they have done a few Cape Epic races over the years. We seem to be alright at the moment, except I had a jandel brow out so are rocking the kiwi bare feet.βš‘β›ˆοΈ

100 km day today from Hermanus to Oak Valley, new camp. Heaps of fun single track mixed in with a good amount of climbing, moved from seaside town up onto the inland plateau wine growing region.
