In a 12-week human study, adults with cardiovascular disease risk who consumed fermented Rooibos saw a measurable decrease in the mass of their heart’s main pumping chamber.

This is important because an enlarged heart muscle can be a sign of increased strain on the heart.

A small daily habit can make a big difference for the muscle that keeps you going.

🌄 Long before Rooibos became a beloved South African drink and a global export, the Khoi and San peoples held and passed down traditional knowledge associated with the plant and its uses.

That knowledge remains an important part of the rich and shared heritage of Rooibos in South Africa.

In recognition of this contribution, the Rooibos Industry signed a landmark benefit-sharing agreement with the South African San Council and the National Khoi and San Council in 2019. It was the first agreement of its kind in the world to cover an entire industry.

Through this agreement, the Rooibos industry makes an annual contribution based on 1.5% of the farm gate price into community trust accounts. The funds support priorities identified by the communities themselves, including education, cultural heritage preservation and community development.

Rooibos is a uniquely South African treasure, with a story shaped by many generations. Recognising and honouring the traditional knowledge of the Khoi and San peoples is an important part of that story. ☕🌿

Fun fact: Rooibos leaves aren't naturally red. 🌿

They're picked green, then bruised and left in the sun where they slowly oxidise, turning that famous red-brown colour. It's this transformation that gives the name Rooibos its meaning: "red bush" in Afrikaans.
