From a conversation to an international opportunity...
What began as a conversation between Renuka Ramroop, Chairperson of the Limpopo Fencing Association, and Barbara Bruderer Eichberg of Fechtgesellschaft Basel has grown into an extraordinary opportunity for two young female fencers from rural Limpopo.
Congratulations to Gloria Bopape (Ditlalemeso Fencing Club) and Thabile Matheta (Frans Mohlala Fencing Club), who are representing the E Tla Natšo Youth Project of the Limpopo Fencing Association at the prestigious Basel Fencing Training camp in Switzerland.
Our sincere thanks to Barbara Bruderer Eichberg, Fechtgesellschaft Basel, and coach Philipp Pleier for believing in our vision and investing in our fencers. We also thank the Limpopo Academy of Sport for making their journey to Switzerland possible through its support of their international travel.
This opportunity is about far more than fencing. It reflects our shared belief in development through sport—using sport to build confidence, broaden horizons, create international friendships, strengthen social capital, and empower young people to become leaders within their communities.

We are incredibly proud to announce that four fencers from Limpopo will be represent South Africa at the upcoming Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Nigeria.
This achievement is particularly significant as it reflects years of dedication, hard work, and the growth of fencing opportunities within our province. In the national squad are athletes who have risen through our development programme E tla natšo, demonstrating that talent, determination, and opportunity can create pathways to the international stage.
Representing South Africa at a major international championship is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but it also comes with significant costs, including travel, accommodation, visas, meals, and other tournament-related expenses.
We are therefore appealing to individuals, businesses, and organisations to help support these deserving young athletes on their journey. Any contribution, no matter the size, will help make their dream of competing for South Africa a reality.

Empowering women beyond the piste 🤺
Three of our female fencers from the Limpopo Fencing Association have successfully completed an accredited Sport Administration course—building leadership capacity both on and off the piste. This achievement was made possible through the valued support of the Limpopo Academy of Sport, whose investment in development continues to strengthen the future of sport in our province.
We are proud to see our athletes growing not only as competitors, but as leaders in sport.
