When you're consistent, others see, others are inspired and some of them take the bold step to be a part of change!
As we get ready for KDX S3 [ vol. 5 | NMU Youth Day Edition ], we connected with the Madibaz Hip Hop Society yesterday and saw the community of dancers they have been building in the last year!
Shoutout to one of the KDX community members, Jas Paul, who has taken the initiative to embody hip hop culture "EACH ONE, TEACH ONE" at Nelson Mandela Universityπ₯ There were so hidden gems that were discovered in the three hours dance session that gave us a lot of hope for the growth of underground street dance in Gqeberha!
We cannot wait to see the students stepping onto the dance floor with us on Tuesday when we share and get together for vogue and hip hop classesπ«΅

β¨ Our third KIKI workshop session was too cute!π
This past Saturday, we continued introducing Gqeberha to ballroom culture while exploring some of the categories featured at our upcoming Forces of Nature: A Kiki Ball, including Face, Runway, Vogue Femme and Drag Realness.
One of the biggest conversations of the day was learning how to connect the theme to the category by asking ourselves:
ππ¬οΈπ₯π "How would this element walk?"
How does Fire walk a runway?
How does Water serve Face?
How does Earth transform through Drag Realness?
More importantly, these sessions continue to show why spaces like this matter. They create opportunities for the girls, the g**s, and the allies who come correct to learn, connect, and experience ballroom culture in a city where q***r spaces remain limited.
The conversations, laughter, and support shared in the room reminded us that ballroom is more than categories and trophies, it offers community, belonging, and chosen family.
And for Gqeberha, this is only the beginning.

It's so humbling to see where the dance community was just three years ago compared to now. π
KDX as a brand has always been set to rebuild street dance culture in Gqeberha, in all honesty it has always been there but just the space to nurture was the missing link. We have now been able position this brand as a doorway to city's underground culture.
Now our consistency, big or small brings us partnerships that will only elevate our mission further. We're so excited to partner with such game-changer in Gqeberha's night life event, DEEP BREW, Sundaze . Now our doorway allows us to bring dance back to the club! That's where it all started right?

These KIKI SESSIONS are workshops that form part of our mission to educate, build and nurture vogue ballroom culture in Gqeberha. We explore the concepts of categories, ballroom etiquette, understanding the culture and more!
This weekend we will be diving into how we align ourselves to the kiki function theme of Nature: A Kiki Ball π π¨ π₯ π¦ π Because when you step onto the runway on June 27th, we want you to serve EARTH, we want you to serve WIND, we want you to serve FIRE, we want you to serve WATER!

A reminder! π
We have previously and successfully crafted events focused on providing safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community in our city. With vogue femme dance forming a great part of underground street dance culture, the vogue ballroom culture is how we are fulfilling the vision. π³οΈβπ
And because it has such a deep rooted history not just culturally but controversially as well, it is only right to for us to elevate q***r brilliance through a separate body.
THE KIX CHAPTER: FOR THE GIRLS. FOR THE G**S. FOR THE ALLIES.
To celebrate International Pride Month this June, we have begun weekly vogue ballroom workshops at the heart of it all, La Dee Das in Salsoneville. All this to get us ready for our main event where every dzoll will step onto the runway like a force of nature!

Thereβs something really beautiful about seeing different cultures in Gqeberha come together with the same intention: community.π
This past weekend, KDX had the privilege of being part of PEβs first locally driven skating open hosted by Move w/ Love, and honestly, it was inspiring to witness. For a first edition, the skating community showed up with so much heart, support, and love for what theyβre building. From the skaters themselves to families, friends, and supporters in the crowd, it was a reminder that culture grows when people choose to show up for one another.
It was also special for us to bring back a KDX dance session after some time, especially after the energy of International Dance Day where dancers from Gqeberha, Cape Town, and Johannesburg shared the streets together through dance. This weekend felt like another important moment for the city, skate culture and street dance culture existing side by side, feeding off each otherβs energy through music, movement, and expression.
What stood out most was how naturally everything aligned. The music, the atmosphere, the people, the intention, it all made sense. And maybe thatβs because both communities understand what it means to build something from love for the culture, love for people, and love for uplifting Gqeberha.
Huge love to the Move With Love team for creating a space that felt genuine, exciting, and welcoming. We know firsthand how much work goes into building community events, especially in the beginning stages, and it was beautiful seeing PE support something new.
Too many more moments like this. π€
