In a study of 628 adults, higher intake of phytochemical-rich foods was linked with a stronger โ€œmorningnessโ€ tendency, better sleep quality, and lower levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. People who ate more colorful plant foods also had lower odds of being evening chronotypes and of experiencing poor sleep.

Whatโ€™s especially interesting is that the strongest associations came from the dietary phytochemical index, suggesting that the diversity and density of plant compounds may matter for circadian and psychological health.

Food is not just fuel. It is also information for the brain, circadian system, and nervous system.
