Article 348 : Golagano Olifant: A Rising Netball Star Determined to Inspire the Next Generation

Born and raised in Morolong, Thaba Nchu, Free State, Golagano Olifant is a young netball player with big dreams and an unwavering determination to succeed. Currently a Grade 9 learner at Albert Moroka High School, Golagano is steadily building her reputation on the netball court while inspiring other young girls from her community to believe in their own potential.

Golagano attended Saint Paul's Primary School, where her journey in netball first began. Watching other girls play during school sports days sparked her interest in the game. She was captivated by the teamwork, energy, and excitement that netball brought. With encouragement from her teachers and her best friend, she decided to give the sport a try-and quickly fell in love with it.

Throughout her journey, Golagano has been fortunate to learn from dedicated coaches who have helped shape her development. During primary school, she was coached by Ma'am Kgware, while at Albert Moroka High School she continues to develop her skills under the guidance of Ma'am Lebona. She also represents Eaglets Netball Club, where she is coached by Tshidi, gaining valuable experience through club competition.

Golagano's ambitions extend far beyond school netball. Just as importantly, she hopes to inspire young girls from Thaba Nchu by proving that where you come from does not determine how far you can go.

"I want to motivate girls from my hometown and show them that even a girl from a local community can make it to the national team," she says.

Her dedication is already producing results. Golagano has participated in several trials and competitions, winning medals along the way. She has once again earned selection to attend upcoming trials, bringing her one step closer to achieving her dreams.

When it comes to role models, Golagano looks up to South African netball player Kamohelo Maseko. She admires Maseko's shooting ability, intelligence on the court, and the confidence she displays during matches. Watching her compete reminds Golagano that strength and smart decision-making are equally important in netball.

The greatest source of Golagano's motivation comes from the people she represents every time she steps onto the court. She plays for her family, her school, her teammates, and the girls from her community who dream of following the same path. Above all, she plays for her grandmother, to whom she made a promise that she would always strive to make her proud.

Whenever challenges arise, Golagano remembers why she started playing netball. She credits prayer, consistent practice, and the support of her coaches and teammates for keeping her focused on her goals.

With her talent, determination, and strong support system, Golagano Olifant is a young athlete with a bright future ahead. As she continues to grow both on and off the court, she remains committed to working hard, chasing her dreams, and inspiring the next generation of netball stars from Thaba Nchu.

Article 347 : Nolene Lucinda Katlego Coetzee: Chasing Excellence Through Netball, Education, and Faith

Born and raised in Mandela Park, Bronville, Welkom in the Free State, Nolene Lucinda Katlego Coetzee is an ambitious student-athlete whose journey reflects resilience, determination, and a passion for making a difference both on and off the netball court.

Nolene attended Golden Park Primary School before earning a sports bursary to study at Welkom Gimnasium High School, where she successfully completed her matric in 2024. After taking a gap year, she is now studying Language Practice at the Central University of Technology (CUT). Although it was not her first-choice qualification, she remains focused on her long-term dream of pursuing a career in law, with the goal of becoming a lawyer who supports victims of gender-based violence and substance abuse while advocating for safer communities.

Her love for netball began at the age of 11 through informal games played on soccer fields, pavements, and at school. However, one unforgettable moment changed everything-making her first interception as a Goal Defence (GD) during primary school. Her passion did not go unnoticed. Her primary school coach, Tshepiso Rose Mathosa, believed in her potential so much that she bought Nolene her very first pair of netball shoes, a gesture that strengthened her commitment to the sport.

Nolene's talent continued to flourish throughout primary school, where she was named the Best Netball Player while also receiving academic awards, proving that she could excel both in the classroom and on the court.

When she moved to high school, her journey took an exciting turn. After impressing her coach with a remarkable long-range goal from the edge of the shooting circle, she transitioned from Goal Defence to attacking positions, becoming a Goal Attack (GA) and Goal Shooter (GS). Today, she proudly describes herself as an all-round player capable of playing every position except Centre, joking that she is still building the stamina needed for that demanding role.

She represented Welkom Gimnasium's first netball team for two consecutive years during Grades 11 and 12. Despite the challenges of balancing matric studies with competitive sport, Nolene remained disciplined by carefully managing her time until balancing academics and netball became second nature.

Currently, Nolene represents the Central University of Technology Ixias Under-21 and Senior teams under the guidance of coaches Thembeni Mere, Nonhlanhla Ndwalane, and Kgosi Diale. Before joining the university, she also developed her game with Jaguars Netball Club in Bronville under coach Tshidi and later continued with another Jaguars team coached by Nonhlanhla Ndwalane.

Her ambitions are as impressive as her work ethic. Nolene dreams of one day playing professionally for either the KZN Stars or Sonoblomo, earning her debut for the South African Proteas, and representing the country at the Commonwealth Games. She also has aspirations beyond netball, hoping to compete internationally in javelin after unexpectedly discovering her talent in the event during her high school's athletics competitions. She qualified for the championships at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein and finished in an impressive fourth place.

Throughout her sporting career, Nolene has celebrated several notable achievements. She was part of the Lejweleputswa League-winning CUT team, represented Free State Netball while in Grade 11, played for Welkom Gimnasium's first team for two years, and helped Jaguars win the Matjhabeng Netball League-a team affectionately known as the "Coconuts of Netball." She also finished fourth in the provincial athletics championships in javelin and is preparing to compete at the upcoming national netball championships in Cape Town.

Nolene draws inspiration from several outstanding netball players, including Thulisile Maduna, Nozipho Ntshangase, Shamera Sterling-Humphrey, and Rolene Streutker. However, her greatest sporting inspiration is Jamaican defender **Latanya Wilson** of the Adelaide Thunderbirds. She admires Wilson's composure, defensive dominance, and relentless work ethic, qualities that continue to motivate her own performances on court.

Whenever setbacks arise, Nolene relies on her faith to keep moving forward. She believes in praying, learning from every challenge, and trying again until she succeeds. The unwavering support of her mother, family, coaches, and former teachers, Juf Cloete and Juf Groenewald, has played a significant role in shaping both her sporting career and her personal growth.

"Netball is not only a game played by 14 players on the court. It is about upliftment, support, love, care for one another, and true sportsmanship. The ability that God has given us to play netball and other sports is an incredible blessing. I hope and pray that we all eventually reach the dreams we have always worked for."

With her talent, faith, academic ambition, and determination to uplift others, Nolene Lucinda Katlego Coetzee is building a future that extends well beyond the netball court. Whether in sport, education, or community service, she is determined to leave a lasting impact and inspire the next generation to pursue their dreams without fear.

Mabopane Hallelujah zebra Force ladies 'Football' club – More Than Three Decades of Empowering Women Through Football

Since its establishment in 1991/1992, Hallelujah Zebra Force Football Club has stood as one of South Africa's longest-serving community women's football clubs. Built on a foundation of faith, resilience, and community development, the club has dedicated more than three decades to nurturing talented female footballers while empowering young women to become confident leaders on and off the field.

The unique story behind the club began when Pastor Mamatshinya returned from a church mission trip to the Republic of Korea. Inspired by the way churches successfully supported professional women's football, he envisioned creating a football club that would combine sporting excellence with spiritual guidance, personal development, and opportunities for young women within the community. That vision became Hallelujah Zebra Force FC, a club whose influence continues to grow today.

Originally affiliated with the North West Province football structures, the club officially transferred to Gauteng in 2008, where it has continued to make its mark in women's football. Throughout its journey, Hallelujah Zebra Force FC has remained committed to developing players despite the financial and operational challenges that have caused many community clubs to disappear.

The club proudly participated in the historic Sanlam Halala Cup between 2001 and 2003, which was South Africa's premier women's football competition at the time. It later dominated the Vodacom Provincial League in North West between 2004 and 2006 before joining the Gauteng Sasol Women's League after relocating provinces. In an impressive achievement, Hallelujah Zebra Force FC won the Gauteng Sasol Women's League title in its very first season in 2008, proving that determination and teamwork could overcome any obstacle.

Today, the club competes in one of the country's most competitive women's football leagues alongside well-supported teams such as Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, JVW FC, and Kaizer Chiefs Ladies. While these clubs enjoy significant sponsorships and professional resources, Hallelujah Zebra Force FC continues to compete as a community-based non-profit organisation driven by passion, commitment, and volunteerism.

Beyond trophies, the club's greatest achievement has been its contribution to South African women's football. Hallelujah Zebra Force FC has produced several players who have represented Banyana Banyana, including Maude Khumalo, Lesedi Matjila, Lebogang Mabatle, and Tiisetso Makhubela. Other talented players, including Lesego Mogotsi, Precious Setsweni, Ethel Nkhumise, and Nhlanhla Maseko, have also earned opportunities to attend national team trials, highlighting the club's outstanding player development programme.

The club's vision is to become one of South Africa's leading women's football institutions by producing excellent players, promoting teamwork, and creating meaningful opportunities for young women. Its mission extends beyond football by using sport as a tool for education, mentorship, leadership, and community development. Guided by values of determination, integrity, respect, teamwork, accountability, inclusivity, excellence, community service, and empowerment, Hallelujah Zebra Force FC continues to shape not only successful footballers but also responsible citizens who positively impact their communities.

Like many community clubs, Hallelujah Zebra Force FC continues to face financial challenges, competing against professionally funded teams with limited resources. Despite these obstacles, the club remains determined to create opportunities for young women through football while seeking support from sponsors and stakeholders who believe in community sport.

More than a football club, Hallelujah Zebra Force FC is a vehicle for hope, empowerment, and transformation. Its legacy is measured not only by championships but by the lives it has changed through football, education, leadership, and mentorship. As one of the pioneers of women's football in South Africa, the club continues to inspire the next generation while remaining true to its motto, "And he who wins souls is wise." (Proverbs 11:30).
