THE PLANK: MORE THAN AN AB EXERCISE π§±πͺ
One position, many muscles working together.
Planks often get filed under "abs training". But holding a good plank asks much more of your body than just your six-pack.
Here's what's working:
πΉ Abs: brace your torso so your midsection doesn't sag.
πΉ Obliques: they help resist rotation and keep your hips square.
πΉ Glutes: squeeze them lightly to keep your hips level.
πΉ Shoulders: they support your upper body over your elbows.
πΉ Quads: tense your thighs to keep your legs straight.
πΉ Lower back: works with your abs to hold a neutral spine.
That's why the plank is a full-body tension exercise, not only a core move.
π‘ Form check: elbows under your shoulders, one straight line from head to heels, and keep breathing. If your hips drop or your lower back starts to arch, the set is over, even if the timer isn't.
A clean 20 to 30 seconds beats a shaky minute. Build up gradually and stop if you feel pain.
How long can you hold a clean plank right now? π
