Sometime in 2007 at the Jing-An (Place of Serenity) studio in Cape Town. Out of shape, overweight, owing to lack of exercise, a relatively poor diet and consumption in employed work. Despite all I am able to somehow, in puddles of sweat, finish a gruelling training session under the tutelage of Dr Michael Lan. I was lifted by a strange sense of the sacred and the elevated in the studio and the rituals of our practices.
