"When Michael Jordan did not make his Varsity basketball team, his Mother did NOT: 1) complain to the school, 2) call the Coach, 3) demand a meeting with the AD, 4) transfer schools, 5) suggest MJ "take a year off" from the JV basketball team.
She simply told Michael, 'get in the gym and work harder'.
Now he's the greatest basketball player of all time. 🐐
Imagine what kids, and the world, would become if more parents were like Deloris Jordan, rather than making excuses and complaining under the guise of 'just being their kid's advocate."

Be an advocate for your athlete but let them also be their own advocate with their work. When things aren't going your way... first look for what you can do to change it.

Welcome to Tennis South Africa 17/06/2020

Dear Coaches,

Tennis South Africa is please to confirm that players, coaches and facilities that comply with the national alert level 3 government regulations and the Tennis SA COVID-19 guidelines can return/open with immediate effect.

This is good news for all, but obviously there is still a lot to be done before we can return to the tennis court.

Please note the following important points that must be in place before returning:

Coaches must be in possession on a COVID 19 licence. These are being sent to the coaches today and must be kept with the coach at all times;

The attached documents must be on display at each venue/club at all times and the checklists followed pertaining to re-opening;

Sanitary checks and cleaning of venue

Screening station at the venue to be set up;

Provinces to submit to TSA a full list of their respective COVID 19 Compliance officers (Club, District, Province);

Coaches are automatically COVID 19 Compliance officers in addition to the venue appointed person;

Court booking system to be implemented;

All persons to adhere to the regulations at all times.

Play Tennis Coaches must still comply with standard coaching regulations and may not coach alone;

Coaching at private courts or gated communities is not permitted. Only at affiliated facilities.

To assist with this process we have attached a TSA COVID-19 info pack which contains all key information.

In the event of a coach not having received a COVID licence but having submitted their application this could be due to the following:

Coach may not be registered;

Coach may not be compliant with certain coaching requirements;

Coach may not have submitted venue approval documentation;

To ensure that COVID 19 licenses are issued as quickly as possible, it is important for the coach to:

Submit the application and venue approval in one document;

Ensure the venue is affiliated and in good standing

If coaches are in the process of only submitting the documentation from today, then they need to realise there will be a delay as several verification steps need to be conducted prior to the license being issued. However, TSA will try to ensure these are issued as quickly as possible.

We trust that this news will be received in a positive manner, but need to re-emphasise the importance of being compliant before returning to court at the specific venue. We all need to act responsibly and realise we are accountable.

Kind regards,

Victoria Botha.

This past weekend, Tennis South Africa submitted its return to tennis operational plan to the Ministry and Department of Sports, Arts and Culture.

The document is aligned to the level 3 sport directions gazetted late last week and provides a timeline for the staggered return of tennis, the monitoring and compliance protocols in place and risk mitigation guidelines for players, coaches, venues and events.

Visit www.tennissa.co.za to download the full document.

The document is due to be reviewed in the next few days by our government and we will provide further news as soon as we receive it.

Team positioning

Today we will doubles team positioning.

It's vital to always know where your partner is on the court. The most dangerous time is when they are pulled wide off the court, which creates a larger space between the two of you.

I was always taught to move together as if you have a rope tied between you , your partner goes right , you go right. I always found this hard and too structured, in the heat of the battle I don't want to be thinking about how many steps my partner has taken and try to match his or her movements.

I like to teach players using a large elastic exercise band tied between you, you know the kind you find in most gyms to assist dips/pull ups.

By using the band, I don't have to go with my partner but need to understand that their team are now under tension, the further my partner goes, the more tension it creates. I don't want to create too much tension so I want to ease the pressure by moving in the direction of my opponent.
