Land-It Octopus BLN Hooks – Still My Number One Choice for Edibles

After countless sessions targeting edibles, the Land-It Octopus BLN hook range is still my go-to. These hooks are incredibly sharp, strong, and with a slight bend to the point, they've consistently delivered outstanding hook-up rates.

The best part? They offer exceptional value for money and are easily one of the best-priced quality edible hooks on the market.

Baits that work brilliantly on these hooks:
White mussel
Pink Prawn
Mud prawn

For most of my edible fishing in the Bergrivier and the Dwarskersbos surf zones, I mainly fish the #2 to 1/0 sizes. They've accounted for plenty of White Steenbras, Galjoen, and even a few Kob along the way.

Sometimes it's the simplest pieces of tackle that make the biggest difference.

White Mussel Bait Presentation

A simple but highly effective edible bait presentation using fresh white mussel paired with the reliable Land-It Octopus 2/0 hooks.

This setup works exceptionally well when targeting species feeding close to the rocks and gullies, especially during cleaner water conditions. The Land-It Octopus hooks provide excellent pe*******on and strong hook holding power while still allowing for a natural bait presentation in the water.

White mussel remains one of the top natural baits for scratching and targeting a variety of edible species along the South African coastline.

Keep the presentation neat, compact and natural for the best results.

TRUSTED STRENGTH – LAND-IT HOOKS

Review by JP Pagel – LinSo Fishing

When targeting the mighty White Muscle Cracker, you need gear you can rely on — and Land-It hooks have always been part of my setup. Their strength and consistency have proven themselves time and time again.

So when I decided to scale down and try their smaller hooks for some bank fishing, I was curious to see if they’d hold up to the same standard.

They did. And then some.

The smaller range carries that same trusted strength and reliability — no bending out, no failures, just clean, confident hook-ups. Exactly what you want when every bite counts.

There are plenty of premium-priced hooks on the market, but if you’re after quality without overpaying, Land-It ticks all the boxes. Strong, dependable, and affordable.

Whether you’re chasing big fish offshore or putting in time from the bank, this is a hook you can trust.

KOB FISHING DURBAN >>>

Spent the evening working the banks in murky water as the last light faded—classic kob conditions.

These fish don’t hit hard. They mouth the bait, test it, and only then decide. Miss that moment, and you miss the fish.

That’s why hook choice matters more than most people think.

Using the Octopus Land-it Hooks, I had the confidence that even the lightest take would result in solid pe*******on—and when the Kob finally committed, the hook held strong through the fight.

In conditions like this, details make the difference.

BRONZE BREAM/BLUE FISH IN THE EC
Area - East London
Hook trace - Maxima 20 to 40lb marine/ultra green
Hook – Land-it Octopus 1/0 or Octopus 1/0 4x (if there are larger reef dwellers in the area fished such as cracker)

A fish that can be a lot of fun to catch if fished with light tackle. Throwing a pink prawn bait with a 3oz into a good working gully which is known to have a lot of the “green weed” which blues eat, I hooked into a really good size blue. They are every strong fish for their size and give up a great fight right until the very end.
My favourite part about catching a good size blue is when he is really close and he gives you a last proper pull. Blue fish are up there with the most tastiest of fish in the EC.
Their bag limit is 2 per angler and a size limit of 30cm.

Bait Demo
The Armadillo bait by Pagel
This bait is specifically used when targeting Cracker or Brusher. I will only use the Land-It 2x Heavy or 4x Heavy when targeting Cracker, as the cracker is well known for either crushing hooks or bending them open. The Land-It hooks have proved themselves time and time again for being affordable and strong.
The Armadillos can be found either in rock pools or tidal areas where they can easily be collected off rocks or in crevasses. Depending on their size 3 or 4 should be sufficient for a bait. You can either cut them out of their shells, or what I prefer to do is, break their shells with a chokka hammer and at the same time releasing extra scent.
This is a very hardy bait and the peckers won't’destroy this bait very quickly, therefore being in the zone for a lot longer. Please note that you are allowed 6 per person per day.
