Watch the moment it all began… the start of the 265km Lion Route and 165km Tiger Route

This past weekend, Trail Hunter Events hosted the Gravel Rush Autumn MTB Race at the breathtaking Boskoppie Lion & Tiger Reserve outside Kroonstad — bringing together riders from across South Africa and even as far as Dubai.

From the very first pedal stroke, it was clear this would be a true test of endurance, resilience, and grit.

Standout performances:

Nico van der Merwe conquered the brutal 265km Lion Route in 10:39

Dewald van Breda powered to victory in the 165km Tiger Route in 5:48

Hayden Raw claimed the 90km in 4:15

Peet Eloff took the 47km win in 2:11

A special mention to Christelle Wiggens, first woman home on the 265km and an incredible 2nd overall in 11:26

With riders from all over — including international competitor Alexia Genne from Dubai — the Gravel Rush once again proved to be more than just a race. It’s an experience.

Rugged terrain, raw beauty, and relentless distances pushed every rider to their limits in what can only be described as a true Gravel Rush challenge.
