Mike is in Val di Sole and it’s UCI MTB World Champs race week!! 🏆

“First time at Val Di Sole and it seems like a cool place, very similar to the other XCO venues. I really enjoy the track, climbs are steep and hard and the descents are quite long and really allow for good recovery. There’s one rooty section, it’s quite tough because the rain made the roots slippery.”

World Champs Prep Check In With Mike 🚴

With under a month to go until World Champs, this is what Mike is busy focussing on to make sure he arrives at Val di Sole in peak form for the main event!

“Sleep - been trying different methods of getting better and more rejuvenating sleep - I found it hard to get the required sleep in Europe because the sun sets late and rises early. ☀️

Recovery - when it’s time to recover, recover properly, no thinking or doing odds things, truly doing nothing is honestly quite hard, sit back and relax. 🧘

Starts - focus and reaction time training. Been playing with pedal tension, timing the clip-in, start gears on different surfaces and gradients. Process is becoming smoother and more instinctive.”

We also asked Mike what some of the big takeaways have been from his season in Europe that he’ll implement at the Champs. Here’s what he said 👇

“It’s incredibly hard to kick the body into a flow state, I felt it a few times but was always short lived, so need to get into that flow state from the start and stay in it till the end.

Take the gap. Many opportunities to pass people in the past few world cups but I never took the gap when I could have, so the aim is not to hesitate and just go for it.”
