For many women and girls in South Africa, simply moving through the world can carry a weight that should never have to be carried.

As a dance community, we want to remind every woman and girl, your life matters. Your safety matters. Your voice matters.

Keep pursuing your dreams. Keep taking up space. Keep believing in what you are capable of. Above all, look out for yourself and for one another.

As we travel to classes, rehearsals and performances, please remain aware of your surroundings, check in with each other, and take sensible precautions. Walk together where possible, let someone know when you have arrived safely, and trust your instincts.

We should never have to live in fear... but until that reality changes, let’s stand together, look out for one another and refuse to let fear take away the things we love.

Don’t give up. Keep going. Keep dancing.
