We did a walk of honour this morning for Ward Martin. It was an opportunity to share fond memories and celebrate his life. Elaine and their children and a grandson joined us for a memorable morning. We miss Ward's presence, but he will forever live in our hearts.

Winter Challenge 2026!
The purpose of this challenge is to keep you motivated to walk or run during the winter months. We are fortunate to enjoy lovely, cool days with hardly any severe weather in Gauteng.
Each participant must set a realistic and achievable distance goal to complete between 1 June and 31 August.
The winner will be the person whose final distance is closest to their goal and who completes most of the runs or walks at our branch sessions. A prize will be awarded to the winner.
If you are not a member of Run/Walk For Life Weltevreden Park, and want to do the challenge, join us now by registering at: https://one.runwalkforlifeonline.co.za/Register/Go
If you join during June to August for at least six months, your first month’s membership will be free!
Our session days and times: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:45 am and 7:30 am. We also do a longer, slow distance walk at 6:30 am on Saturdays - for those who can do about 10 km.

Yesterday, we participated in and assisted with the 5 km fun run that forms part of the NG Church bazaar events. It was a lovely, sunny morning and human as well as doggie participants had a great time. Thank you very much to all our club members who assisted with marshalling on the route and at the registration and medals & water tables! It was also great to see some of our RWFL members from our Run/Walk For Life Radiokop and Run/Walk For Life Wilro Parkpark clubs.

It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to one of our beloved RWFL members, Ward Martin, who passed away on 24 May 2026 after a short illness. We will always remember Ward for his warmth, love of nature, and eagerness to share interesting titbits of information as he was always willing to chat with anyone. He also served as our 'sweeper' on the road, ensuring that everyone, especially those in our later session, was safe. Ward was a member of RWFL from August 2017 until February 2026. He qualified for his 9 000 km distance peak in February, but unfortunately, he was unable to receive it in person due to his illness at that time. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Elaine (who is also one of our members), as well as his children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
