Doryoku Judo Academy is proud to congratulate our judoka who competed at the Judo South Africa National Rankings Event (NRE) on Saturday, 3 October 2026, at the Portuguese Hall in Turffontein, Johannesburg.

🥇 Niel Bruwer — Masters 30–34 | U81 kg — GOLD

🥈 Cara Claassen — Pre-Cadets | +63 kg — SILVER

🥉 Quwin Myburgh — Pre-Cadets | U60 kg — BRONZE

🎀 BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

This October, Doryoku Judo Academy proudly stands in support of everyone affected by breast cancer — the fighters, the survivors, those currently undergoing treatment, and the families and friends walking beside them. 💗

On the tatami, we learn that strength isn’t about never falling — it’s about finding the courage to get back up.

Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our judoka will be wearing pink belts in support and to help raise awareness. 🥋🎀

Yesterday we celebrated Women’s Day, but at Doryoku Judo Academy, one day simply isn’t enough. 💗

Throughout August, we celebrate women every single day — the mothers, daughters, sisters, judoka, coaches and supporters who bring strength, courage and heart to our dojo and our lives.

In judo, strength isn’t only about what happens on the mat. It’s about getting back up, supporting one another, believing in yourself and never giving up. 🥋

🥋 Know Your Gi. Respect Your Journey.

Every time a judoka puts on their gi, they are wearing more than just a uniform—they are wearing the values of judo.

Did you know each part of the gi has a Japanese name?

🔹 Uwagi – Jacket
🔹 Zubon – Trousers
🔹 Obi – Belt
🔹 Eri – Lapel
🔹 Sode – Sleeves

🥋 Why are there white and blue judo gi?

⚪ White Gi – Traditionally represents humility, purity, and the true spirit of judo. It is the original judo uniform and reminds us to approach every training session with respect and an open mind.

🔵 Blue Gi – Introduced to make it easier for referees, athletes, and spectators to distinguish between competitors during matches. It has exactly the same meaning and value as the white gi—the colour does not indicate rank or experience.

At Doryoku Judo Academy, we believe that every lesson on and off the tatami builds discipline, respect, confidence, and character while honouring judo's traditions.

A huge congratulations to AJ Schutte on his selection to represent South Africa at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games in the Cadet Boys –81kg category!

AJ has been awarded South Africa’s only judo quota place for the Youth Olympic Games — an incredible achievement and testament to his hard work and dedication.

Congratulations AJ!
