Yesterday we celebrated Women’s Day, but at Doryoku Judo Academy, one day simply isn’t enough. 💗

Throughout August, we celebrate women every single day — the mothers, daughters, sisters, judoka, coaches and supporters who bring strength, courage and heart to our dojo and our lives.

In judo, strength isn’t only about what happens on the mat. It’s about getting back up, supporting one another, believing in yourself and never giving up. 🥋

Every time a judoka puts on their gi, they are wearing more than just a uniform—they are wearing the values of judo.

Did you know each part of the gi has a Japanese name?

🔹 Uwagi – Jacket
🔹 Zubon – Trousers
🔹 Obi – Belt
🔹 Eri – Lapel
🔹 Sode – Sleeves

🥋 Why are there white and blue judo gi?

⚪ White Gi – Traditionally represents humility, purity, and the true spirit of judo. It is the original judo uniform and reminds us to approach every training session with respect and an open mind.

🔵 Blue Gi – Introduced to make it easier for referees, athletes, and spectators to distinguish between competitors during matches. It has exactly the same meaning and value as the white gi—the colour does not indicate rank or experience.
