When it comes to shape and structure.
In rugby even more so 🏉💪
"We create patterns to make players feel more comfortable because order is more creative than chaos." - Pep Guardiola
Guardiola’s point is that structure is not the enemy of creativity — it’s the foundation of it. By creating clear patterns of play, players gain reference points: where teammates will be, what options are likely to appear, and how the team wants to solve recurring game situations. This reduces uncertainty and cognitive load, allowing players to act faster and with more confidence. When players feel secure within an organised framework, they are freer to improvise, take risks, and express themselves at the right moment. In this sense, order creates the conditions for creativity to emerge consistently, rather than relying on random or chaotic actions.

Day 3 of our Winter School Holiday Rugby Camp was another important step in the development of our young players. 💪🏉
Session 1 focused on the foundations that make a big difference in the game — in-contact skills and quality ball presentation. The ability to win collisions, stay strong in contact, and provide quick, clean ball is vital.
The focus then moved into individual positional skills and unit skills, allowing players to develop the specific techniques needed for their roles while understanding how they fit into the bigger team picture.
Another great day of learning, competing, and growing as rugby players. 🔥🏉
