For 17 years, you carried the South African flag across the world, inspiring us with your courage, determination and class.

From the mountains of Europe to the biggest stages in international cycling, you showed the world what South African women are capable of. You raced with heart, competed with the best and gave us countless reasons to be proud.

Your victories, including the 2022 Tour de Romandie Féminin title and your esports world championship, will forever form part of your incredible legacy.

A champion is defined by more than the finish line. It is the journey, the battles fought, the barriers broken and the people inspired along the way.

We're looking forward to your mentorship at Team Ammani as you continue to shape the sport beyond the saddle.

🖤🚴🏽‍♀️ LILITHA LOMBO. SHE HAD DREAMS.
Lilitha was 16. She dreamed of using cycling to build a life beyond the violence and limited opportunities around her.
On an afternoon group ride, she died doing what she loved. Riding her bicycle with Khaltsha Cycles.
Youth cycling programmes give young people purpose, discipline, community and a chance to dream bigger.
As cyclists, we have a duty to support them.
Donate. Mentor. Sponsor. Show up. Open doors.
And demand safer roads so every cyclist gets home.
Lilitha’s last ride should strengthen our resolve to protect the next generation.

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back
The UCI fined Eritrean cyclists Biniam Girmay and Henok Mulubrhan 500 CHF each at the World Championships in Montréal for wearing mismatched team kit elements, violating strict uniform regulations.

The decision has triggered heavy criticism from fans and analysts who argue that penalising an under-funded national team for minor apparel discrepancies directly contradicts the UCI's recent efforts toward global inclusion, such as introducing a Refugee Team and hosting its first African World Championships in Rwanda.

While critics view the fines as out-of-touch bureaucratic enforcement that ignores the massive logistical hurdles smaller nations face, the UCI maintains that rigid uniform rules are necessary to preserve professional presentation and broadcast standards.

🚴‍♂️✨ TWO WORLDS, ONE STARTING BLOCK
🌍🇨🇦The Montréal 2026 UCI Road Worlds showcased the ultimate contrast in sports tech.
Down the Time Trial ramp, elite stars rolled out on wind-tunnel-tested, multi-thousand-dollar hyper-bikes.
Right next to them, riders like Gil Gomes (Guinea-Bissau) took the line on standard road bikes, wearing casual sunglasses, and fueled by pure pride.
Because many developing nations lacked the budget for specialised aero gear, they rode what they had, and won the loudest cheers from the crowd.
🙌How did the UCI work to bridge this gap?
🛠️🚴"Ride Your Colours" Initiative: Partnered with Santini to provide high-quality racing kits to 41 under-resourced federations. Solidarity Equipment Pathway: Shipped fleets of bikes and mechanics' gear directly to smaller nations.
World Cycling Centre (WCC): Hosted riders like Nesrine Houili (Algeria) at the high-performance hub in Switzerland to give them elite training and equipment.
The equipment gap was real, but the passion was identical. Kudos to every rider who gave it everything!

🖤 RUN FOR ELIZABETH. RIDE FOR ELIZABETH.

Elizabeth Moselakgomo went out for a run. She never came home.

As more bodies are reportedly found around the East Rand , we confront a frightening reality. Women are not safe enough in our public spaces.

As weekend warriors, we are weekday runners too.

We should be free to run, walk or cycle without fear.

This week, wear black. Run for Elizabeth. Ride for Elizabeth. 🖤

Women deserve to come home.

💔🚴🏽‍♀️ ANOTHER CYCLIST. ANOTHER LIFE LOST.

Cyclists in Cape Town rode in honour of Laura Blake. Gone far too soon.

For cyclists across South Africa, every loss leaves a pit in the stomach. We ride because we love cycling. We should never have to wonder whether we will make it home.

How many more cyclists must perish before road safety becomes everyone’s responsibility?

Drivers, share the road. Give cyclists space. Pass only when it is safe. Put the phone away. A few seconds of patience could save a life.

Laura deserved to get home.
Every cyclist deserves to get home.
