In general, arcing current in systems below 15.0 kV will be less
than the 3-phase fault current because of arc impedance.
For buses with nominal kV in the range of 0.208 to 1.0 kV, use the following attached formula

Beware: a standard breaker is only capable of interrupting a DC component (with its AC components super-imposed thereon) when the supply network has a time constant of no more than 45 milli-seconds and the breaker has first contact seperation at the minimum time that the manufacturer specifies. If, in your application where the supply network's time constant is greater than 45 milli-seconds, you then need to rate the breaker higher. I cannot over-stress this point for those using IEC62271-100 !!

Beware: IEC60909 doesn't calculate the dc and ac decays on unbalanced faults, such as line-to-line-to-ground faults. This is usually not too serious, except when the the single-line-to-gound fault level is higher than the three-phase symmetrical fault level!
