Fourways Martial Arts Academy is extremely proud to celebrate the achievements of its two representatives at the 8th WGKF Championship, held in Pune, India, from 5 to 10 October 2026.
Last year, Fourways Martial Arts Academy was invited to take part in the selection process for the South African Goju-Ryu team. Two members of the Fourways Dojo earned places on the national team: Malaika Minyuku-Gutto and Shihan Stef Biagioni.
Malaika competed in the Senior Kata and Senior Kumite categories. She reached the final in kumite, facing Germany, and earned a silver medal while representing South Africa with distinction. This was a remarkable achievement: her kumite debut, first senior final.
Shihan Stef competed in the Master +45 Kata and Grand Master +55 Kata events. He won double gold and successfully defended his world championship title, following his victory in Australia in 2024. Every elimination and medal-round decision was unanimous in his favour.
Across the eight editions of the WGKF Championship, Shihan Stef has competed in five and earned a medal in each:
• 1st Championship: Bronze — Portugal
• 2nd Championship: Gold — South Africa
• 3rd Championship: Silver — New Zealand
• 7th Championship: Gold — Austria
• 8th Championship: Gold — India
These outstanding results are a testament to the dedication and skill of both athletes, and to their ability to reach new milestones on the world stage.
The Fourways Dojo could not be prouder of Malaika and Shihan Stef. We congratulate them both and look forward to seeing them continue to shine in the future.

🥋 **LEGENDS OF KATA – ROME, ITALY 🇮🇹**

On the **10th and 11th of September 2026**, I had the privilege of travelling to **Rome, Italy**, to attend the inaugural **LEGENDS OF KATA** seminar, bringing together some of the most distinguished names in the world of Kata.

It was a true honour to train directly under **Tsuguo Sakumoto-sensei**, a world-renowned master who has coached **Olympic and World Champions** and has himself achieved the highest levels in Karate.

Sakumoto-sensei has also taught some of the greatest Kata athletes in the world, including **Ryo Kiyuna-sensei from Okinawa, Japan**, the Olympic Kata Champion.

Added to these legends was **Luca Valdesi-sensei**, an Italian and multiple-time World Champion, who participated in the seminar in the **Shotokan style of Karate**.

For me, this was much more than just another seminar. It was a unique opportunity to learn directly from one of the very best and experience the depth and technical detail of **Ryuei-ryu style Karate**.

I had the privilege of studying and practising:

🥋 **Anan**
🥋 **Anan Dai**
🥋 **Ohan**
🥋 **Ohan Dai**

Every movement, detail and correction gave me new knowledge to take home and continue developing.

As a teacher, I look forward to sharing this knowledge with my students at **4Ways Martial Arts Academy**.

A very special **thank you to the President of the Italian Karate Federation, Davide Benetello**, for hosting such a prestigious and memorable event.

I feel truly privileged to have trained with these legends and to continue my own journey of learning in Karate.

**Never stop learning. Never stop improving. Oss! 🥋🇮🇹🇯🇵**

CONGRATULATIONS!
Fourways Martial Arts Academy would like to congratulate the KENEILWE DUIKER for outstanding achievement in her Black Belts, which was awarded on Sept 12th 2026, at ISMAA’s Hombu dojo in Glenvista.

🥋KENEILWE DUIKER :- FOR SENIOR BLACK BELT

Once again, Sensei Roberta and I are very proud of your Black Belt achievement.
You have played an important role in 4Ways Dojo's success, and you are a valuable part of our academy.
You have done an outstanding job.

What stands out is not only your personal dedication to karate, but also the example you set for others. You have shown great perseverance, a positive attitude, and a real eagerness to learn. That alone makes you truly deserving of your promotion.

It is with immense pride and humility that I reflect on my 45-year journey in the practice of karate, particularly in the study of Goju Ryu karate.
But I must give all the credit to Hanshi Arnold De B**r, Chief Instructor of the International Shorei Martial Arts Academy, who I consider my karate father.
He continues to teach both my students and me even now.
I want to honour him for all the years he has devoted to our success as a Goju Ryu instructor.
I also want to thank our ISMAA instructor, who serves on the grading panel and has helped shape our students' journeys.
I am truly proud to be part of this organisation and to work alongside such dedicated people.⛩

Fourways Martial Arts Academy is incredibly proud to see Alessandro Biagioni, Justin Baynes, Reece Baynes and John Pieters selected to represent South Africa at the African Championships in Algeria 2026. 🇩🇿

This journey is about far more than medals. It is about the early mornings, late nights, discipline, sacrifice, setbacks, determination and countless hours of training that have brought these athletes to this moment.

To wear the Protea colours is an honour that comes with great responsibility. You are not only representing yourselves — you are representing your families, your coaches, your dojo, Gauteng and our beautiful country. 🇿🇦

Believe in your preparation. Trust in your training. Fight with courage. Compete with honour.

Whatever the outcome, remember that you have already achieved something special by earning the right to stand on that international tatami and proudly say:
