PRESS RELEASE

NAMIBIAN SQUASH ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES NATIONAL TEAM FOR 2026 GROWTHPOINT JARVIS-KAPLAN TOURNAMENT

The Namibian Squash Association (NSA) is proud to announce the national team selected to represent Namibia at the 2026 Growthpoint Jarvis-Kaplan Tournament, which will take place in Mossel Bay, South Africa, from 6–10 July 2026.

The Growthpoint Jarvis-Kaplan Tournament is widely regarded as the premier inter-provincial squash competition in Southern Africa and attracts some of the strongest provincial and national-level players from across the region. The event provides a valuable platform for athletes to compete against elite opposition while representing their provinces and countries with pride.

Namibia National Team

• Le-Hugo van Rooyen (Captain)
• Arno Diekmann
• Danie Greeff
• Francois Hanekom (Junior)
• Christof Knoetze
• Clinton McElhone (Reserve)

The squad represents a strong blend of experience and emerging talent and reflects the NSA’s commitment to building a sustainable high-performance pathway for Namibian squash.

A Professional Approach to Preparation

In a major step forward for high-performance squash in Namibia, the NSA has for the first time implemented a structured national preparation programme five months ahead of the tournament.

The programme, titled “Road to Jarvis 2026,” commenced in February 2026 and represents a significant shift toward a more professional, performance-driven approach to international competition preparation.

Developed by Nu Ag Academy and supported by Tulipamwe Consulting Engineers, the programme has been designed to ensure:

• Measurable performance progression
• Alignment with international competition demands
• Accountability and consistency through structured reporting

Players were required to adhere to defined training, reporting, and participation standards throughout the preparation period, including:

• Weekly structured training cycles of approximately six sessions
• Fitness monitoring using objective performance metrics
• Match play simulations and competitive conditioning
• Ongoing communication and reporting to the National Captain

This structured approach introduced clear performance expectations over an extended period. Selection for the final national team was therefore based not only on playing ability, but also on demonstrated commitment, consistency, professionalism, and full engagement with the preparation programme.

This approach reflects a new era for Namibian squash, where long-term dedication and adherence to agreed preparation standards form an integral part of national team selection.

NSA Statement

NSA President Adri Lambert said:

“The Road to Jarvis programme is one of the most significant high-performance initiatives ever undertaken by the NSA. It ensures our athletes are given every opportunity to succeed.”

“More importantly, it is about building a culture of excellence and long-term development for Namibian squash.”

Preparing Athletes for Regional Competition
The Jarvis-Kaplan Tournament remains a key benchmark for Namibian players against top regional competition.

The inclusion of junior player Francois Hanekom highlights NSA’s continued focus on youth development and long-term succession planning.

Tournament Details

The 2026 Growthpoint Jarvis-Kaplan Tournament will be hosted by Eden Squash in Mossel Bay and will take place across multiple venues, including Mossel Bay Squash Club, Grootbrak Squash Club, George Squash Club, Mossel Bay Town Hall (glass court), and Mossel Bay Point (outdoor court).

The event is expected to attract the strongest provincial teams in Southern Africa.

Acknowledgements

The NSA extends its sincere appreciation to Nu Ag Academy, Tulipamwe Consulting Engineers, Power Line Africa, Visions Consulting, FabuPharm, MPlus Pharmacy, Cajaka Furniture, Portsmut Eco Safaris, Zebra Trailers, Fusion Five, as well as all sponsors, clubs, volunteers, families, and supporters for their continued contribution to the development of squash in Namibia.

The Association also acknowledges the dedication shown by the selected players throughout the preparation programme.

Final Preparation Phase

With the tournament approaching, the team enters its final phase of preparation. Ruan Olivier, Director and Head Coach of Nu Ag Academy, will visit Namibia from 12–14 June to provide the national squad with final technical and tactical guidance in preparation for the competition.

NSA is confident that structured preparation, combined with athlete commitment, will position Namibia strongly at the tournament.

The 2026 campaign represents more than competition—it reflects the continued growth of Namibian squash and the foundation for future regional and international success.
