Scuba Junciton for Dive gear and Tuition At Scuba Junction we dive because we love it, we are recreational divers with a passion for the outdoors.

In the words of Tim Ecott in his book Neutral buoyancy "... he dived in order to experience flight, to escape the ties of gravity. His technical training as an engineer had made him wish he could fly as a bird, but on reflection he had decided that a fish would be superior. In general he reasoned a bird can not choose to stay motionless in the air. The bird may soar and glide above us seemingly un

The Cape Sea Urchin or Parechinus angulosus is found on almost every dive in the Western Cape. They force us to keep neutrally buoyant, to save our knees and hands from a painful sting. While a urchin will not attack you (Lol imagine that) stepping on it will prick your skin and cause a nasty sore that can get infected.
These spiny pin cushions are not very useful to us but they do provide a safe nursery for juvenile abalone, which are very valuable to us. In 1994 there was an unexpected disappearance of urchin in the Western Cape and this along with prolific poaching led to the reduction of abalone along our shores. It turned out that the crayfish were to blame. The urchins are back in full force and the abalone are increasing.
You can eat an urchin, well not the whole thing ... It's Gonades (yip you heard right) these buttery nuggets are the only edible parts and best eaten raw and fresh. (Like Sushi).
So on your next dive have a closer look at the pumpkin shell owner, the Urchin in all its various sizes and colours.

Windmill - Our favourite shore dive site in false bay. Great for beginners and comfortable for families sitting on the beach while we dive. Max depth 8m. Best dived after NW wind in winter, but not during a South Easter.

Cape Town’s famous Antipolis shipwreck that stood for years in the water off Oudekraal, has washed ashore near the 12 Apostles Hotel.

A recent swell causing a surge of extremely large waves on Wednesday 19 and Thursday, 20 January might have dislodged the wreck. It was situated in a Marine Protected Area within the Karbonkelberg restricted area.

The Maritime and Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit at The South African Heritage Resources Agency issued a warning: ‘The wreckage is very unstable, and the unit advises people to refrain from climbing on the wreck and or diving near it for the time being. The situation is being monitored by the City of Cape Town and we will post any updates when they become available.’

The Antipolis, a Greek oil tanker, ran aground during astorm in 1977. She and the Romelia, which ran aground near Sandy Bay, were both being towed from Greece by the tug Kiyo Maru No. 2 to be scrapped in Taiwan, according to Submerged. It was a popular dive spot at about 12 metres deep.
