When I hear yoga students telling me they cannot do certain things during their practice I am quick to respond that everybody can do yoga - literally! The final structure/pose/asana is simply what is comfortable and not based on an instagram photo or misconceived perception of what all yoga practitioners must achieve.
Remember flexibility is an added value/result - not the purpose of yoga (and certainly not essential)!

At its simplest yoga means to focus on coordinating movement with breath rather than just achieving a pose's final form, allowing for better alignment and injury prevention.
In particular beginners must prioritise consistency over intensity, use props like blocks for stability ... and never force a position - comfort and breath are key indicators of progress.
