Historical knowledge is worth something.
The relationship between Giant and Yamaha go back way further than you possibly knew.
That relationship counts for a lot.
Read the following Aussie report on the latest Giant ebike offering and also gain insight into the road travelled by the Giant Yamaha relationship.

Yamaha was early to it all. They tried a 25cc petrol engine on a bicycle in 1973, a 35cc engine on a mountain bike in 1982, then began work on electric systems in the late 1980s, with the first production Yamaha Power Assist System, or PAS, arriving in Japan in 1993.

It added help in response to the rider’s effort. Sensors read what the rider was doing, and the system assisted accordingly.

Story goes, that they even had to persuade the Japanese authorities that the result could still be classified as a bicycle. Funny to think about now, eh!

We took a closer look at how the SyncDrive Pro 4, the motor powering the latest crop of Giant e-MTBs, came to be.
