Leaving 99 Deed-Seed nr 9:
"Suck it up Buttercup."

The reason Drill Sergeants exist is to help soldiers be ready when the moment for action arrives. Their voices are not gentle, their words never dipped in roses and lavender. They make you suffer on purpose and with purpose.

They also come in different flavours. Sometimes they look like mothers, fathers or older sisters. Sometimes like your boss. They are the teachers we love to hate. But theirs are the voices we hear inside when the going gets tough. And they often save your life. Or keep you from doing something stupid. Or give you the grit you need to push through the discomfort.

We forget those voices pretty quickly when things are easy. Because we want to forget them. But we remember them hard when the enemy is at the gate. "Get down! Get up! Move!" We find comfort and instruction in the middle of the fight and we become stronger.

When nobody else is around, those voices bring us to discipline. They cause us to find admiration and respect for ourselves as we see a clean, neatly made bed, polished shoes and logical order we created by taking the time to listen to our inner Drill Sergeants. Life just feels a little better when things get squared away.

Don't be lazy. Don't get soft on the things you know are not helping you move forward. Learn to love The Suck.
You are growing a warrior inside you that will amaze and surprise even your harshest critics. So suck it up buttercup. Oorah.

Aaaaand....We've finally found a new training HQ and a place to call home for UOR and Parkour in 🥰❤️😎! We love that the forward-thinking folks at PJ Olivier ART Centre have seen and recognised our fastly-growing sport, and the value we can add to the lives of kids, students and adults alike here in the winelands. What a beautiful, historic, safe and welcoming place to come and learn the art of expressing balance, movement and momentum with nothing but a little courage, fitness and resolve.

To us it means no more getting chased away by security, ample parking and access to outdoor as well as indoor facilities where we can train on the regular.

It also means we can now begin to offer specialised yoga-type/thai-chi like UOR classes for adults and seniors, that focus on gentle stretching and meditation aspects contained within .

We are soooo amped and grateful to have an anchor, a harbour and place to train and grow our community. is where UOR was born, and it is fitting that this beautiful town is where we have our first real home. Thank you to all for welcoming us and making us feel that we belong here. Our first classes in our new home begin on Tuesday, 31 January at 17:00. Beginners and experts, the young, the bold and old, All are welcome...Can't wait!!

Leaving 99 Deed-Seed nr 8:
"Finish what you start, no matter what the cost." -Andrew Wilmot

Few things compare to that feeling you get when the hard part is over. I was stupid enough to do a 100km challenge over a mountain pass the one day. Up until about 50kms in I was still chatting and singing little songs and taking in the beauty of the night sky among the mountains. Then it all changed and the pain came and the pain stayed. at 60kms in I wanted to make my excuses and declare the challenge a dignified fail. at 70kms in I was feeling the tears start to well up and my body started singing protest songs. At 80kms I was crying outright with every step I took and my friends had to give me long hugs and kind words. But nobody told me I should give up. I cried some more but I somehow didn't quit. At 90kms I saw Stellenbosch appear in the distance and found something precious...Belief. I could really do this. The pain did not leave, my feet were bleeding inside my socks. But my tears changed into grateful ones. I started going faster. The end was in sight. At 97kms in my wife brought my dog and some children to help me finish. As I left 99, there was a whole crowd of people I didn't know that were carrying signs with my name on and cheering me on to the end. The pain didn't matter anymore. I crossed the 100km mark as a different person than I was before. I had finally learned that I was able to finish something I had started. I hope you don't have to go physically walk a 100kms through a cold night to realise this. You have what it takes. Begin something and finish it. No matter what the cost. Your reward waits on the other side.
