What a Derby it was. Nietvoorbij is one of the first female soccer teams in Stellenbosch. This battle will and has always been personal.

Nietvoorbij took the first shot at goal and manage to beat our goalkeeper with the power of the wind behind the ball.

Michelle got us on the scoreboard with some great interplay from the midfield.

HT: 1-1

Second half we dominated with high press and ensured that we kept the ball most of the time. It was in the 70th minute of the game where everyone (players and spectators) said; "Holy hell" when took a bullet of a shot from the midfield and secured our second goal.

In our defence kept their lead striker well entertained and ensured that the defensive wall is solid.

Our coach said; "...It was not our best performance, but a win is a win. We need to be more clinical in front of goal and dominate on their mistakes. One match at a time that is all we need, but I am super proud..."

This Saturday it is the Battle of the Turf. The old enemy, Nietvoorbij United will welcome us to their battle field with all cylinders blazing. Nietvoorbij United suffered a 1-0 defeat against Franschhoek Spurs FC over the weekend and will certainly look to gain maximum points against us.

The last time we faced off against each other the battle field was left 2-2 and prior to that we took it all with a 3-1 win.

Maties Ladies took the lead within the first 10 minutes of the first half, from a well timed kick from the middle of the park.

We were then rewarded a penalty a few minutes later and Michelle Meiring made sure that we grab the opportunity.

Throughout the first half both teams played end to end football but the goalies kept the match under control.

The second half was a battle for both teams. Neither could score and the frustration started. Some risky tackles on both sides resulted in free kicks in dangerous areas, yet again the goalkeepers came to the rescue.

We were not clinical at all. We played a very glumpsy game, which was not our style. With a few notes from the dugout we managed to break the stubborn defense of Maties down, as Michelle went for her second of the evening. Our third goal came due to miscommunication in the Maties defense and Vaneshree Meiring got it in to make the score 3.

Yes, we might have won the match but there are plenty to learn and work on.

Now onto the next battle; Falcons LFC vs Nietvoorbij United next week Saturday 20 May 2023 at 2pm.

Today we welcomed Power Cosmos FC from Paarl to The Fortress at Cloetesville.

Seeing that we don't know anything about Cosmos, we played the ball around for the first few minutes to see how they will attack and play. It was a quick examination of their strategy and we opened our account.
During the first half we found the back of the net 9 times, but 2 of it was offside .

The half-time ended 7-0

The second half we made some rotational changes and changed the shape of the game a bit.

The opposition decided to play a very defensive game, but it was not counting in their favour as they got tired holding onto the ball.

During the second half we got the ball pass the goal line 8 times, but 3 goals we ruled offside. The second half gave us 5 glorious goals.

This we turn our attention to the DERBY away against Regional Women's Soccer League Team.

Only one can claim to be maroon. Will it Maties or us.

Match kick off at 19:00 on Friday 12 May 2023 at Lentelus.

This coming weekend 8 to 10 July we will compete in the 20th edition of the Engen Knockout Challenge in the Ladies U20 division in Langa. We are in the "Group of Death" with the defending champions RV United, Mighty City and the thorny Cape Town Roses. As the newcomers to the tournament, we are coming in as the underdogs. We are looking forward to it!!!
We are the only female soccer team from SAFA Cape Winelands that will participate in the tournament alongside our brother counterparts Stellenbosch FC and Barca Juniors from Kayamandi that will compete in the Boys U18.

It was a rainy day out on the battle field today in the SAFA Cape Winelands Regional Women's Soccer League. We attacked from the first minute of the game. Ashley Meiring opened the scoring with a beautiful right-footed shot from the left side of the field, outside the 18 yard box into the top right corner.

Half-time score was 5 - 0

We came back into the second half charged against the icy cold weather. The wind played in our favour, but was our curse too.

The second half saw Shareldene Syster our Lady of the Match got her hatrick and so did Michelle Meiring. Our Centre Back Anouscka Brown aka Zuzu got her name on the scoresheet with a clever outside foot shot from the right side of the 6 yard box.

Amber Benaris our commander in the midfield had to be called off due to injury and was replaced with our debutant Mackenzie Pieterse.

Congratulations to our Goalkeeper Kaylene Jansen for keeping a cleansheet!!!
