It’s about making sure horse and rider are well matched, with horse welfare at the heart of the partnership.

As a simple guideline, rider + tack should not exceed 20% of the horse’s bodyweight — but this is just one part of the bigger picture. Fitness, condition, conformation, rider balance and the type of work being asked all matter too.

Encouragingly, 96% of Endurance GB riders already fall within this guideline, showing the strong welfare culture within our sport.

Thanks to the support of Baileys Horse Feeds, riders at selected events can access free horse weighing, body condition scoring and expert nutrition advice.

All the horses passed the vet check today and the Nations Cup takes place on Friday 24 October. South Africa is proudly represented by Lexi Carter, Matthew Morrison and Paige Jacobs.

Unfortunately Oliver Lazarus will not be riding as his horse is currently recovering from injury. The Chef d'Équipe is Peter Morrison.
