Situated within the Vredefort Heritage site, our informal and friendly atmosphere allows for uninterrupted privacy in the bush. Our excellent service and well-organised guides guarantee your stay with us will be an unforgettable one. Just over one hour’s drive from Johannesburg Central, Hadeda Creek is on a scenic and secluded section of the Vaal River. We offer tented accommodation with both standard as well as new en-suite executive thatched tents. Whether a day excursion or longer, the itinerary can be jam-packed with endless fun and learning experiences while evenings lend themselves to chilled relaxation and reflection.

I grew up English-speaking, but honestly, the values that shaped me were very Afrikaans.

Respect and hard work.
Perseverance and humility.
And caring for others.

These values still guide the way I work and the relationships I build.

And perhaps that’s why being able to move between English and Afrikaans with clients has been such a gift in my career.

Language creates connection.
It builds trust, and it helps people feel understood.

That is important to me, especially during Heritage Month.

South Africa is full of different cultures, languages and stories, and our diversity is something we should be very proud of.

I feel lucky that, through HADEDA Creek, I get to be part of passing some of that on to the next generation.

Our students come to us for adventure, but they leave with lessons that go far beyond the activities.

They learn to rely on each other.
They discover what they’re capable of.
They step outside their comfort zones.
They learn to care for and support one another.

For me, that is ubuntu. It is the South African spirit of togetherness and caring for others.

That is what heritage means to me.

I am proud to be South African.

I am proud of where I have come from.

And I am so proud of what I get to pass on.

Before or during almost every school camp, the question around safety comes up.

A teacher. A principal. It doesn't matter who.

But I never mind that question.

I respect it.

Because somewhere along the way, someone made sure safety stopped being an afterthought in this industry and became something we all expect.

That someone is Mona Preller.

On paper, Mona runs Alles Magazine, a platform connecting suppliers across the outdoor education industry. Spend five minutes with her, though, and you quickly realise it's so much more than that.

Mona started Alles because she cared about raising the standard of safety in outdoor education. She wasn't willing to let "good enough" be good enough.

So she became someone who refused to let the industry settle.

For years, she has encouraged better safety standards, connected schools with trusted providers, and challenged operators to raise the bar. She helps teachers and principals recognise the organisations that are leading the way, while never hesitating to encourage the rest of us to do better.

She does it because she believes our industry can be excellent, and she holds everyone to that standard, including us.

Now she's taking that mission even further.

Mona is launching a thesis, a practical guide to navigating outdoor education in a space that continues to evolve.

If you have ever wondered who is raising the standard for outdoor education in South Africa, look no further.

Passionate networker.

Relentless about excellence.

Always asking more of every one of us.

That's Mona.

This Women's Month, she is the kind of person we should be talking about.

Because industries improve because people like Mona refuse to accept "good enough."
