🧠 TWO TALKS. LOTS OF QUESTIONS. FEWER MYTHS.
How much do we really know about concussion and recovery?
There is so much information out there — some evidence-based, some outdated, and some that has simply become accepted as fact.
So, Lindsay Harris Physiotherapy and Reené are doing things a little differently.
These are interactive Q&A sessions.
We’ll ask the questions.
You’ll have a chance to answer.
Then we’ll unpack what the evidence actually tells us — followed by discussion.

THE RIPPLE EFFECT: WHY PAIN ISN’T ALWAYS WHERE THE PROBLEM STARTS

When someone arrives with pain, it’s tempting to focus on the painful area. Instead, we look at the whole system. This approach is grounded in what physiotherapist Mike Reinold calls the Ripple Effect.

Your body doesn’t work in isolation.

A restriction, weakness or movement dysfunction in one area can create compensations elsewhere — a ripple effect through the body.

For example:

🦵 A stiff hip → changes how the knee loads → knee pain
🦴 A restricted thoracic spine → alters shoulder movement → shoulder pain
🦶 Poor foot mechanics → changes loading through the ankle → Achilles pain

The painful area may be where the problem shows up, rather than the only place contributing to it.

That’s why our senior physiotherapists, Lindsay and Reene, look beyond the painful spot.

We assess posture, movement patterns, muscle length, joint mobility, balance and how the body works together as a kinetic chain.

Because treating only the last ripple doesn’t always address what created it.

Find the stone.
Understand the ripples.
Treat the whole person.

PHYSIOTHERAPY ISN’T JUST FOR SPORT.
When you hear “physiotherapy”, you might think of a pulled hamstring, a running injury or getting back onto the sports field.
But physiotherapy is so much more.
At Lindsay Harris Physiotherapy, rehabilitation also plays an important role in neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease.
Why?
Because movement matters.
Rehabilitation can help people work on:
• Balance
• Walking
• Strength
• Posture
• Coordination
• Mobility
• Confidence and independence

And sometimes, the tools we use are surprisingly simple.
Like a ball.

Over the next few posts, we’ll show you how something as simple as a ball can become a valuable rehabilitation tool — for sports rehabilitation AND neuro rehabilitation.

Because movement has no one-size-fits-all solution.
