🔥 SAPS SEIZES 100 FI****MS FROM SOWETO SECURITY COMPANY
A major fi****ms compliance operation in Soweto has resulted in around 100 fi****ms and ammunition being seized from a private security company.
The seizure took place on Saturday, 22 August 2026, during a compliance inspection conducted by SAPS members operating under Operation Buyisa.
According to police, the company’s Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA) accreditation had recently been suspended. Investigators allege that the person responsible for the fi****ms failed to dispose of them as required after the suspension.
Police also found that the company’s firearm storage facility did not meet the requirements of the Fi****ms Control Act 60 of 2000.
The seized fi****ms will now undergo ballistic testing to determine whether any of them may have been used in the commission of crimes.
Operation Buyisa is part of SAPS efforts to remove illegal fi****ms from circulation while ensuring that security companies, firearm dealers and other firearm holders comply with South Africa’s fi****ms laws.
The development also raises an important question: what happens to security guards who depend on company-issued fi****ms to protect themselves and the public if those weapons are removed?
That concern should not, however, be confused with a confirmed claim that the guards are being deliberately sent to confront armed criminals without protection. The immediate confirmed issue is that SAPS seized the fi****ms following alleged regulatory non-compliance.
Do you support SAPS taking fi****ms from security companies that fail to comply with the law, or should companies be given more time to fix compliance problems before weapons are confiscated?
