The phenomenon of nature is truly spectacular!
Of course we all know that the rains bring new life to the land, but to actually watch all the new green seedlings pop up, the brown long grass start to grow new green shoots and the trees beginning to look alive again with fresh new baby green leaves is something that has us "oohing and aahhing" around camp, and alot of "Oh my gosh, come and see what's growing here"
It's magical. It's paradise. Nature is amazing!

Monday started early with the "rennovation" of our kitchen. The roof is being lifted for maximum rain run-off, it's also being extended for a beautiful eating area, and then the water-proofing is going deeeown...
Hopefully the rain won't catch us again before its done, even though "they" say there will be some light showers today. Light is ok ππΏπ

It's quite crazy and hard for the mind to fathom that after the rainy season when the river rises, the rocks on both sides of the river in this pic are covered with water...
The mighty Zambezi eludes us with its constant change and enormous volumes of water!
Come visit us and experience life on the lower Zambezi..

Hello Wednesday...
The day is already heating up fast and the sun has just peeked over the top of the gorge cliffs and onto our bush kitchen π
Have a happy day!

A massive bushfire broke out in the Batoka Gorge yesterday and I've never seen anything like it. The term "it spread like wild fire" now really hits home as it's so dry at the moment with the heat reaching up to 45 degrees celsius over the last few days.
Yesterday was astounding and deeply moving to see the guys from the nearby village work together to keep the fire from not encroaching on the camp. A super tough job, as winds were changing directions constantly and the flames were huge.
7 hours later and they beat the flames.
10 men who helped, 4 of which work for the camp, the other 6 came as soon as they were called to help.
They worked in this heat, carrying water from the river up to the flames on the high cliff face and succeeded in protecting the camp from burning to the ground.
Eternally grateful to our amazing neighbours in the village who saved the day! We are so fortunate to feel so part of a community. It's super rare these days, and it's good to know that they have our backs, just as we have their's..
The Rose Rabbit lives on!
