NKWAZI READY FOR ROAN UNITED TEST IN TRANSITION LEAGUE OPENER

Nkwazi Football Club will begin their 2026 Transition League campaign against Roan United at Imboela Stadium, with head coach Masauso Tembo expressing confidence in his side’s preparations ahead of the much anticipated season opener.

The High Flying Nkwazi are looking forward to returning to action in front of their home supporters after a lengthy break, with Tembo acknowledging the importance of starting the campaign on a positive note.

Tembo, however expects a difficult encounter against Roan United, a club with a rich history in Zambian football, and has urged his players to remain focused and execute the plans developed during the off season.

“Playing a team like Roan United is always difficult. They are a traditional team, one of the oldest team in the country, and we just have to be serious,” Desouza said.

Nkwazi’s pre season friendly matches have provided the coaching staff with an opportunity to assess the squad, identify areas requiring improvement and evaluate the combinations between new arrivals and existing players.

Desouza believes the team has shaped up well, with the integration of new signings and young players providing encouragement ahead of the short league campaign.

He also noted that pre season defeats can offer valuable lessons, allowing the technical bench to identify mistakes and make the necessary corrections before competitive football begins.

With Nkwazi scheduled to play the league opener at Home, Tembo believes their home advantage could prove crucial in a condensed league campaign where every point matters

“Playing at home is always an advantage, and since the league is short, it is very important to pick up maximum points,” he added.

The coach also paid tribute to the club’s supporters, recalling how they stood by the team during last season’s relegation battle, including travelling to away matches to offer encouragement.

He has called on the fans to maintain that same spirit of support as the team embarks on a new campaign, particularly with several young players joining the squad.

“We love our fans. Last season, when we were fighting relegation, they were really behind us. They encouraged us and followed the team. What I can ask is for them to continue with the same mentality and encourage the boys,” Tembo said.

As the countdown to kick off continues, Nkwazi will be aiming to translate their preseason work into a positive result against a historically established Stylish Roan United side.

With home support behind them and a renewed squad eager to make an impression, the Zambia Police outfit will be determined to make a strong start to the 2026 Transition League at Imboela Stadium.

We wish Nkwazi a high flying start to the season💪

NKWAZI FC UNVEILS NEW KIT AND TEAM BUS AT A COLOURFUL CEREMONY

Nkwazi Football Club has unveiled its new playing kit and brand new team bus at a colourful ceremony held at Edwin Imboela Stadium, marking a significant milestone in the club’s drive towards greater football heights.

The event was graced by the Inspector General of Police, Mr Graphel Musamba, as Guest of Honour, alongside the Deputy Inspector General of Police Administration, Ms Charity Munganga, senior Zambia Police Service officials, sponsors, club officials, players, technical staff and other invited guests.

The Zambia Police Director of Sports, Mr Teddy Shimishi, welcomed the invited guests in his opening remarks.

In his address, Mr Shimishi highlighted the financial challenges facing modern sport and the need for innovative initiatives to supplement traditional funding.

He revealed that initiatives including the Inspector General’s Marathon and other fundraising ventures were introduced partly to support the facelift of Edwin Imboela Stadium.

As part of the fundraising strategy, the Sports Office has targeted the procurement of 10,000 Nkwazi FC replica jerseys, with proceeds expected to contribute towards the intended fundraising target. An additional 5,000 police tracksuits will also supplement the ongoing fundraising efforts.

Mr Shimishi further recognised the contribution of senior police officers and other stakeholders who have supported the various fundraising initiatives, particularly Mr Edwin Kaluba, Commissioner of Police in Charge of Operations, for his role in supporting the Inspector General’s Marathon and other ventures.

He also disclosed that Nkwazi FC, which competes in the Premier League, requires substantial financial resources to maintain its operations, noting that the club’s executive has been working closely with the Sports Office to meet the demands of running the team.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr Graphel Musamba, acknowledged the changing nature of sport and the increasing financial requirements associated with sustaining competitive sporting programmes.

He noted that the Office of the National Sports Coordinator services more than 14 sporting disciplines, adding that such programmes require the support of well-wishers, partners and sponsors.

The Inspector General commended the sponsors supporting Nkwazi FC, Nkwazi Queens Football Club and Nkwazi Rugby Club, describing the partnerships as a major blessing and relief to the institution.

He further called for the relationships between the Zambia Police Service and its partners to be sustained through strong and mutually beneficial partnerships

The highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of Nkwazi FC’s new playing kit and team bus, giving the High Flying Nkwazi a fresh look as they prepare for the Transition League.

The new kit and bus are expected to provide renewed motivation as the team enters another chapter of its football journey.

During the occasion, three players were awarded for their performance during the just ended 2025/26 ZPL soccer season.

Crowford Mwaba was awarded with the most Disciplined Player Award while Mathews Mashimikilo got the most consistent player award. Billy Balanganai Ntumba was awarded with the top scorer award.

Meanwhile, Nkwazi goalkeeper Bradley Mweene on behalf of the team, thanked the Zambia Police High Command for its continued support to the club.

Mweene said the unveiling of the new kit and team bus would serve as motivation for the players as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
