Good morning from the lovely Mosi-o-Tunyaโฆ a little dry at the moment but every season here has its charm. Off to adventure some more, so just passing through here to wish you well with your โplease unmuteโ if thatโs your portion for the day! ๐

I'm always happiest when I'm with the right people. Doesn't even matter where. Also, can you tell I love being in villages with thatch huts and little stools carved out of real trees from the neighborhood?
Do have a great week y'all, and try to pay attention to the little things. It's where the most joy is found!

Gaziantep.
Still my favorite city in the world. I've been to many places but this one held the most charm for me. Fell in love as soon as I took my first run through the town (best way to explore a new place. And get completely lost while at it - you'll see even more unexpected corners).
Gaziantep also has some of my best memories and some of my most harrowing experiences. From hanging out with really wonderful locals who were genuinely kind as well as curious about my own country, to the best food you've ever eaten anywhere - and I'm not exaggerating - to getting a really bad portrait of me painted by a lovely old man who'd never seen a black person before.
To, while most saw it on TV, looking out of my hotel window every night and seeing missiles light up the sky as nations fought a proxy war that affected millions of innocent lives. And a personal favorite fireplace story - the midnight search of all my belongings in the middle of a highway because police suspected I was there as an Is*s bride because what is a black Zambian girl doing all the way out here ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Ah, to say I have lived is an understatement!
One day I'll tell you about being driven everywhere in a bullet proof van like I'm a don or something (before you get ideas, please note that I always visited as a small NGO techie working to help out with the Syrian victims and refugees, I just happened to work with the most badass small NGO and team!).
My eldest sister's only complaint is I'm forever making her pull out an Atlas to figure out where I am so in case you're wondering, Gaziantep is a beautiful city in Turkey, right on the border with Syria. It was badly affected by the earthquakes earlier this year but I'm sure it's maintained a lot of its appeal. Do let me know if you ever decide to visit. I just might tag along!

And of course, thank you to all the women at the event that stopped me to say a kind word or two after my keynote, and until now in my DMs. I take none of it for granted and truly appreciate you taking the time to listen to me.
And please, someone needs to tell my friend Bupe that my slippers had a touch of yellow as per color scheme so she shouldn't judge me for not knowing how to spend more than 7 minutes in heels ๐คฃ

I remember being at home in Kenya many years ago and sending me a message that simply said: friend, you're doing so much out there, WHY have I never had you speak at one of my women's events? And right there, we agreed to make it happen. It took years but I'm convinced she was waiting for the perfect moment. And the Zambian Business Woman event was it. Because I've watched grow and Sunday was such a moment. We kept hyping each other backstage with 'no crying right now' because we both knew the emotion such a moment comes with. But Lulu, I'm here to say here's to even bigger and better international events, and to more nshima dates in the Wood Kitchen! With you it's always upwards and then some! ๐
