FROM THE DUSTY PITCHES OF MPIKA TO THE WORLD CLASS STADIUMS OF MOROCCO WORLD CUP - THE JOURNY OF AGNESS MWAKA
The journey of Agness Mwaka is a masterclass in how raw talent, when met with opportunity and relentless determination, can rewrite a young life’s trajectory in the span of just 12 months. Agness Mwaka’s journey is a remarkable rise from the dusty pitches to the global stage of international football. In July 2025, Mwaka was navigating the dusty, hard-packed pitches of Mpika in Muchinga Province, controlling the midfield for Isubilo Youth Soccer Academy.
The statuesque and imposing defensive midfielder began turning heads while playing for Isubilo Youth Soccer Academy and she was scouted during the Muchinga Province Provincial league finals in Chinsali — where she was named player of the tournament — and was later monitored at the ZANACO Under-17 Schools Grassroots showcases in Lusaka. After a standout performance at the Muchinga Provincial League finals and the ZANACO grassroots tournament, she caught the attention of big-league scouts. But The Elite Ladies Fc had already moved ahead to secure her. By August 2025, The Elite Ladies FC came calling with a life-changing K15,000 transfer deal, securing the 14-year-oldraw talent on a multi-year contract that promised a bright future in the Zambian Premier League and a window to national teams.
Trading the rural landscapes of Mpika for the fast-paced football culture of Lusaka, Mwaka did not just adapt, complete with starting school in grade 10; she dominated. The Woodlands A Secondary School pupil quickly established herself as a powerhouse in the Zambian Premier League. Transitioning into a world-class defensive midfielder, she became a regular livewire for both Young Elite Ladies and the senior Super League side. Whether anchoring the midfield for Young Elite Ladies FC or making historic impacts — such as delivering four assists in a single 12–0 blowout against Chainda Bombers and scoring a stunning 35-yard worldie against Driven Queens — she proved unstoppable. Week in week out, she was busy executing precision tackles, unleashing long drives and accurate through. Her impact was undeniable.
Her commanding physical presence, statuesque frame, and innate ability to anchor a defense earned her the nickname "The Machine".
Her performances for Young Elite Ladies Fc and The Elite Ladies FC earned her a stint with the Zambia Under-16 women's national team that was invited to the UEFA Friendship Cup in Belarus in May 2026. And even though she was not part of the Zambia Under-17 Women's National Team under coach Carol Kanyemba earlier in the qualifying rounds of the 2026 Morocco Under-17 FIFA Women's World Cup, her domestic league excellence and standout performances for the Under-16 national team made an Under-17 national call-up inevitable. Mwaka, was deservedly called up to the last round of qualifiers against Ethiopia. Coach Carol Kanyemba integrated the rising star into the Zambia Under-17 Women's National Team ahead of the crucial last round of World Cup qualifiers.
Leaving the country for the very first time on an international flight to Ethiopia, "The Machine" helped anchor the Copper Princesses through the final rounds of grueling qualification.
Today, in October 2026, the dust of Mpika has been replaced by the grand stages of North Africa. Agness Mwaka is currently in Morocco with the Under-17 national squad, preparing to represent Zambia at the 2026 Morocco Under-17 FIFA Women's World Cup. Mwaka and her teammates have now transitioned from local assessment camps in Lusaka straight to an international training camp in Morocco. In just over a year, she has evolved from a provincial prodigy into a global contender, ready to showcase her strength and vision to the entire world. The teenage phenom has cemented her status as one of Zambian football’s brightest new hopes.
This is what The Elite Ladies FC is there for. To make such stories possible.
