Madeline Muusha is 17 years old and aspires to become a lawyer. After earning her black belt in 2018 and starting karate classes for her own school in 2019, Madeline continued her leadership growth this year by becoming a new instructor at Nagle House.

We asked Madeline about her experience and here is what she shared:
"My karate journey was, and is exciting although there were some challenges and difficulties. I started training at a tender age around 6 so I can say I grew up in karate...

My Father was my biggest motivator and encouraged me through out the journey. It was a great privilege for me to share my skills, ideas and inspirations to other girls...

A teacher has more responsibilities than being a student but it's also fun and interesting. When I coach girls in competitions and they do well has always been my favourite part. Also knowing that the girls are well disciplined and implementing what I have taught them is something that I cherish.

Training is demanding so you have to plan your training sessions and you have to teach them and see the results.

Training girls from less privileged families has been a set back, since karate is demanding financially. Many thanks to Fairfight for the assistance and support."

Among Mabuni’s earliest students was Kanei Uechi [not to be confused with Uechi Kambun's son of the same name], who by 1935 was also teaching in Osaka. In 1950, Uechi returned to Okinawa and established the Sh*to-ryu Kempo Karate-do Kai. On Okinawa, Uechi is considered the true successor to Mabuni’s art.

We had originally planned to give the students in Zimbabwe meals at the dojo, but due to the lockdown Patience and Prichard have been delivering food to their doorsteps! A huge thank you to Petra Hoogendoorn and the NTSDA for donating the funds for this project earlier this year 👊
