CHAPUNGU FC HOLD FIRM TO EXTEND THEIR COMMAND AT THE SUMMIT

Chapungu Football Club continued their impressive march in the 2026 ZIFA Central Region Soccer League campaign with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over a determined Kwekwe United FC in a thrilling top-of-the-table showdown at Ascot Stadium this afternoon.

In a contest that fully lived up to its billing, the Waru Waru boys once again displayed resilience, tactical maturity, and attacking quality to preserve their place at the summit of the standings.

The breakthrough arrived in the 21st minute when the league’s in-form marksman, Edward 'Kariba' Watson, rose majestically above the defence to power home a perfectly weighted corner delivery from Talent Dube.

The goal, Watson’s ninth in seven games, further cemented his status as the league’s most lethal attacking weapon and rewarded Chapungu’s early dominance and relentless pressure.

Chapungu continued to dictate the rhythm of the match with fluid passing, disciplined positioning, and coordinated attacking movement, but Kwekwe United FC remained organised and resilient in defence for large periods of the encounter.

As the clock ticked down, the hosts finally found the breathing space they deserved in the 89th minute through a moment of pure composure and creativity.

Talent Dube exchanged intricate passes with Tafadzwa Marufu before slicing through the visitors’ defence and calmly finishing to send Ascot Stadium into celebration.

To their credit, Kwekwe United FC continued fighting until the final whistle and pulled one back in stoppage time after a rare defensive lapse by the hosts.

The late goal brought an end to Chapungu’s extraordinary clean-sheet streak, but it could not overshadow another commanding team performance by Tererayi Zinyowera’s men.

With this result, Chapungu FC maintain their grip at the top of the table regardless of results elsewhere, further evidence of a side steadily transforming consistency, unity, and belief into a powerful force.

From defence to attack, the Waru Waru boys continue to play with cohesion, discipline, and growing confidence, qualities that are increasingly making Ascot Stadium a fortress for the blue-and-gold army.

A heartfelt head bow to the loyal supporters who thronged Ascot Stadium in and created yet another electrifying atmosphere. Your unwavering support continues to drive the boys forward . . . 🙏🏼

🏆 CHAPUNGU FC SWEEP APRIL AWARDS AS MOMENTUM BUILDS AHEAD OF KWEKWE SHOWDOWN 🏆

Chapungu Football Club ’s remarkable start to the 2026 ZIFA Central Region Soccer League (CRSL) campaign has received massive recognition after the Club completed a stunning clean sweep of the league’s April monthly awards, a powerful reflection of the dominance, discipline, and consistency displayed by the Waru Waru boys so far this season.

In a huge statement announced by ZIFA CRSL, Chapungu FC scooped every major accolade on offer, underlining the Club’s growing authority both collectively and individually.

The headline act was red-hot striker Edward 'Kariba' Watson, who once again scored a brace, this time off the pitch, by collecting two prestigious individual honours.

Watson walked away with the _Midlands Urology Centre Top Goal Scorer of the Month Award_ after netting seven goals in the month of April, before adding the coveted Ya FM Player of the Month Award to crown a sensational month of football.

At the heart of Chapungu’s rise has also been the tactical brilliance and leadership of head coach Tererayi Zinyowera, whose impressive work earned him the Ronnies Sports Arena Coach of the Month Award.

Under Zinyowera's guidance, Chapungu have evolved into a well-drilled and fearless unit built on structure, intensity, discipline, and attacking precision.

Most remarkably, the team remains unbeaten after six matches and is yet to concede a single goal in more than 540 minutes of competitive football, an extraordinary defensive record that continues to set the pace in the league.

Chapungu’s defensive excellence was further recognized through goalkeeper Polite 'Symplo' Sibanda, who earned, albeit jointly, the Jutan Printers Goalkeeper of the Month Award after keeping five clean sheets.

Sibanda's composure, organization, and command at the back have been central to the Club’s defensive solidity throughout the opening weeks of the campaign.

The awards clean sweep arrives at the perfect moment for the league leaders, serving as a major morale booster ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Matchday 7 clash against Kwekwe United FC at Ascot Stadium.

With confidence soaring, momentum building, and Ascot rapidly becoming a fortress for the blue-and-gold army, the Waru Waru boys will be eager to turn individual accolades into another commanding team performance.

Chapungu FC calls upon all loyal supporters to throng Ascot Stadium in tomorrow (Sunday, 10 May 2026) for the awards presentation ceremony and to rally behind head coach Tererayi Zinyowera and his charges as they battle for another important victory. Kick-off is at 1500hrs.
