MANCHESTER UNITED VS. LIVERPOOL
| Sunday, October 24th |
Premier League | Old Trafford
4:30PM GMT/11:30AM EST
The end of a long eight days for Liverpool finishes off at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. The Reds head into the match unbeaten in all competitions so far this season. They’re stuck in second place behind Chelsea, but their performances have been through the stratosphere.
Chief among those players at the top of his game is Mohamed Salah, who has scored seven goals in the first eight league games. Not far behind, however, are Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino, who have both been on fire as well. After his poacher’s hat trick against Watford last weekend, it’s hard to believe that Firmino would lose his spot to Diogo Jota for this one.
Manchester United, as expected, have turned into Cristiano Ronaldo and the Pips with the re-appearance of their aging, controversial talisman, relying on him to pull them out of jams and win games on his own. Unfortunately for Liverpool, that is kind of Ronaldo’s whole thing. Most recently he did it against Atalanta, when the team won 3-2 on Wednesday in their Champions League match. Ronaldo knocked in the late winner to put United over the line.
However, that match after their Leicester City loss and the international break before that seemed to have taken a toll on the team. Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Fred all doubtful for Sunday.
Predicted Liverpool Lineup (4-3-3)
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Mané
Thiago Alcantara remains out of contention for Klopp on Sunday, along with Harvey Elliott. Curtis Jones might be available, which is great news.
Jota may get into the front three, but Firmino’s form might keep him in. Fabinho should return to his starting role after missing out in Madrid on Tuesday. Barring any match fitness issues, the defense writes itself.
For United, as mentioned, Rashford, Fernandes, and Fred are in doubt for the match after both went off injured against Atalanta in midweek.
What the Managers Had to Say
Jurgen Klopp: “If you don’t defend well against United, I wouldn’t know a reason why we should get in the coach and go there, to be honest, because the quality they have offensively is absolutely ridiculous.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “It’s a fact the history between the clubs the rivalry, all the trophies these teams have won, it’s a massive game and a local rivalry. I always say, being a Manchester United player, being given the privilege, honour, responsibility to wear the shirt and step out onto the pitch against Liverpool, you give everything you have. We know these games don’t need bigging up, it’s a massive game.”
The Officials
Referee: Anthony Taylor. Assistants: Gary Beswick, Lee Betts. Fourth official: Mike Dean. VAR: Stuart Attwell. Assistant VAR: Marc Perry.
who do you think will win Liverpool or Man United. lets hear your predictions
Mohamed Salah on his future with Liverpool
In a world where there are more platforms than ever before to express one’s self, a criticism of the modern footballer is their growing capability to say nothing at all.
For all the interviews and social media platforms, there must be an idiot’s guide issued to every Premier League player regarding how to respond to any subject containing even a whiff of controversy.
While politicians are famous for avoiding answering questions, the go-to tactic for the modern footballer, understandably, is to hedge one’s bets.
Take Mohamed Salah’ s latest admission regarding his Liverpool future, ahead of his contract expiring in 2023, for example.
“It does not depend with me,” he told Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s clash with Manchester United. “If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football (career), but I can't say much, it's not in my hands
Arsene Wenger takes sides. he knows full well how emotional it can be in the dugout and didn't see the incident as a big deal.
"It’s not always peace and love on the bench," he told beIN Sports. "Overall, I must say that something happened there. He did not only not greet, but he ran inside.
"That means he was determined not to shake hands and that means something happened.
"The good thing is that it’s repairable because it happens sometimes that you have an exchange of words and six months later you meet each other and you sort it out."
what my brother Alisson said about the penalty that was given to A Madrid but reversed after Var
"About the penalty, I was quite sure that it was not a penalty,” Alisson said.
“I have good vision from the moment and I went straight to the referee to tell him because sometimes the referee doesn’t have a good [view].
“I think the VAR checked it really good, in a good way – this is my point of view. You have the images, you can know better and the referee made a good decision. It was not easy, there was a lot of pressure from the supporters, from the opponent as well but I think it was the right decision.”
what do you think about Simeon not shaking klop's hand after defeat.
this is what Klopp said:
"I wanted to shake his hand, he didn't want to. His reaction was not too good but not mine also.
"Next time I see him I'll shake his hand. He clearly wasn't happy, not at me but at the game."😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Manchester United have never contemplated hiring Antonio Conte despite their patchy form and erratic displays under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, reports say. The Red Devils came close to losing a fourth match from their last five against Villarreal in the Champions League on Wednesday night. But Cristiano Ronaldo struck late to ease the pressure on his manager
