We regret to inform our parents, players and stakeholders that practice tomorrow is cancelled due to a musical function taking place at Alexandra Sports Club - Harare, Zimbabwe.

Tomorrow is the first time, this year, that we have had to cancel a session due to reasons beyond our control.

We regret any inconvenience this may cause.

On Saturday we hosted Mhizha Primary School U9 and U11 and Glenview Development U9, U13 and U17.

The Fearless Fledgling Falcons U9, our most important team, played two games against both Mhizha Primary School and Glenview Development. We lost both games. However, we were treated to some very entertaining cricket which left parents and passers-by alike in awe! The games were fully loaded with fireworks and several moments of brilliance from our tiny tots.

Last Saturday was the first time we did anything on the square in this last half of 2026. We ran centre-wicket practice for U11s to U17s then eventually for our most important teams, U7s and U9s.

We were thrilled to have Australian legend coaches Trevor Chappell and Peter Buchanan witness the various scenarios we covered during our practice.

Drills on the side net were ran for our relatively new at cricket students and U9s.

Yesterday Coach Kelvin Keegan Jena had the honor to conduct one of our midweek sessions in the presence of Australian cricketing royalty Trevor Chappell and his colleague Peter Buchanan.

The coach and players received expert mentorship, direction and insights from the Australian coaches.

Chappell and Buchanan are currently in the country for their annual Grassroots Cricket tour to impart skills to children all over Zimbabwe. Trevor Chappell played 3 Tests and 20 ODIs for Australia and coached Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Singapore national teams. He, together with his brothers Greg and Ian, has a stand named after him in the Adelaide Oval. Peter Buchanan is a certified Elite coach who is Head Coach for Victora State Country in Australia. He previously coached the Vanuatu national cricket team.

We are still enrolling girls and boys from 4 years to 15 years for all-year round cricket.

As the holiday draws closer, our various teams are finessing their skills in preparation for the bumper cricket programmes ahead; the most important being the Fearless Fledgling Falcons U9 Tournament on 19 September 2026.

We will field 2 teams at this tournament with one being exclusively made of 4 to 6 year olds only.

All age groups took bowling and batting classes in their various age-related stations this past Saturday.

Mavericks Cricket

Our U9s continued with their preps for the upcoming Fearless Fledgling Falcons U9 Tournament in October. Coaching Ian ensured had a batting class for the little ones and Coach Yolanda took them for bowling and fielding.

U11s honed their straight batting technique by repeatedly shadow-batting in between two stumps and received throw downs thereafter.

Once Coach Ian was done with the U9s, he took the U13s and U17s, who had just completed four levels of Coach Nigel's fielding class, for various batting drills.

On Saturday our training focused on preparing our U17 boys and girls for the upcoming NPL games. Our U9s continued with their preparations for the upcoming Fearless Fledgling Falcons U9 Tournament in October.

The rest of the kids took batting and fielding classes!

On Saturday, our U7s and U9s began their preparations for the upcoming Fearless Fledgling Falcons U9 Cricket Tournament in October this year. The coaches took them through fielding, bowling and a bit of game awareness. By the end of this 12-week programme, our children should all be at par and ready for this exciting tournament.

Some proficient U9s, U11s through to U17 concentrated on range-hitting, the straight drive and sweep shot before taking high-catches towards the end of our session.

With the Mavericks Cricket U13 Tournament coming up, coaches are pulling all the stops to send an U13 and an U11 side to compete.
